Curious to know what the Nebraska Young Democrats (NYD) have been up to in the past year? Join us at the NYD Forever Young Dinner and see what we are all about! This isn’t your average stuffy political dinner, it will include young leadership from across the state as well as elected officials who are, at the least, young at heart.
Who will win the contentious “chapter of the year” award? Will the “Year in Review” bore us to tears or cause tears of laughter? What margin of victory will Sen. Tom White prevail by next November?
You can find out…………..

School is back in full swing, and so are the UNO College Democrats! We’ve elected new officers (check out their bios on the officers’ page!) and we’re geared up for a GREAT semester! We’ll be discussing constitutional issues, like health care, and participating in great philanthropic events! Make sure you stop by and join us for a meeting, every Monday at 8PM on the 3RD Floor in the Gallery Room!!!
NEXT WEEK YOU WON’T WANT TO MISS THE MEETING!!!
Because MAYOR JIM SUTTLE will be here to answer all YOUR questions!! YOU WON’T WANT TO MISS IT!!!
Happy Summer! Even though we are half way through, we hope you are having a good one! If you haven’t already heard, Omaha has a brand new mayor, Democrat Jim Suttle!
Congrats to Mayor Suttle and his campaign team! Thanks to all their hard work, Omaha is still blue!
We also have a new Executive Team for the fall semester! Head on over to the Officer Bio page to read all about them! And keep on having a great summer!
Thank you to each and every one of you who helped make our 2009 Tribute to the Fallen happen. We had a lot of wonderful comments from students on campus and the public at large. Our Closing Ceremonies were very successful, with the family of one serviceman from Nebraska who fell in Afghanistan in attendance. We were privileged to be able to honor him. We also had a few veterans and currently serving troops come. There are pictures on the website, as well as on Facebook. Also, Kyle Wullschleger filmed throughout the week and will be compiling and editing a documentary that we will make available to you all in the future. www.tributetothefallen.com
Tonight, Monday, April 20th, at 8PM, we will have our Officer Elections. President, Vice-President of Campus Outreach, Vice-President of Community Outreach, Secretary and Treasurer are all up. Anyone who is registered for classes at UNO (& has paid their student fees) and has attended at least one meeting this semester is welcome to run for a position or vote for the new Officers.
I do hope that you will consider running for a position and will definitely come to support those who are! If you have any questions about what these positions entail, feel free to contact me.
Next week, instead of our regularly scheduled meeting, we will have our annual end-of-the-year BBQ. The new President will send out a message with more details later this week.
We still have a HOT Mayoral Race and HIGHLY contested City Council Races. The City General Election is May 12th. What YOU can do until then:
Jim Suttle for Mayor can always use people to knock on doors (the weather’s BEAUTIFUL) or make phone calls. Their office is at the old Obama HQ on 76th & Cass. Walk-ins WELCOME any time.
Also, the Douglas County Democratic Party will be doing COORDINATED phone calls Monday through Thursday from 4PM to 8PM. These phone calls will be Get Out The Vote calls and will ask for voters’ support of BOTH Jim Suttle AND the Democrat running for City Council in their district. The DCDP office is located on 72nd & Pacific in the same strip as our beloved Clancy’s.
As well, our parent organization, the Nebraska Young Democrats will have a GOTV drive closer to the election. Again, the new President will give you more information as it comes closer.
“I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for all that you’ve done this semester and all that you will continue to do in the future. It has been my absolute pleasure to have been your President this semester. I will, of course, still be around helping the new Executive Committee and be an active member of this organization,” Nikola Jordan, President.
2009 marks the fourth annual Tribute to the Fallen. In its inaugural year over 2,400 flags represented the troops who had paid the ultimate sacrifice in Iraq. Last year, the number had risen to 4,144. Placing these flags takes over 150 man-hours from volunteers across the state of Nebraska. These volunteers are veterans, students, elected officials and friends of the UNO College Democrats.
Each year, the name, rank, military branch and age of each fallen serviceman and servicewoman is read. In 2009, this will take place on Tuesday, April 14th and Thursday, April 16th from 10AM to 5PM. Wednesday, April 15th is a day of silence.
A Closing Ceremony will take place on Thursday, April 16th at 5PM. We will pay a special honor to each fallen troop from Nebraska and have words from veterans.
All are welcome to attend throughout the week.
CONGRATULATIONS TO JIM SUTTLE!!!
It’s official! Jim Suttle has made it past the primaries!
Visit www.jimsuttle.com for a special message from Jim!

What do you mean you haven’t been to a meeting yet this semester? Don’t you know how much FUN we have? Don’t you know how much good we do?
UNO College Democrats
MONDAYS, 8PM, 3rd Floor of the Student Center
City Election Primary is April 7th!
We all know that Hal Daub is being controlled by the “All Seeing Eye” of Sauron in his quest for the Ring of Power. And, Jim Vokol’s scary similarity to Lex Luther and Lord Voldemort is just uncanny.
“What can we do to ensure that Omaha doesn’t come under the control of these fictitious super-villains?”
Quite simple: WE MUST ELECT JIM SUTTLE!
Did you know, were it not for Jim Suttle, music venues that served alcohol would not be allowed to have under-21 year olds? That’s right! The Waiting Room & The Slowdown would be close to having to shut their doors to local, regional & national music! JIM SUTTLE is why we get to enjoy all-ages music venues!
“How do we help this hero?”
Easy: Take two hours of your time this week, grab a friend or a roommate & head over to the Suttle Campaign Headquarters at 76th & Cass (where the old Obama HQ was). I promise, Guitar Hero will still be there when you get back (& Slash will still be hard to beat)!
Even better: Thursday, the 26th (that’s today) you will be rewarded for your valiant efforts by getting FREE PIZZA from Jeff Shephard (Jim Suttle’s Campaign Manager) if you show up for a couple of hours between 4 & 8:30PM!
“Doesn’t it suck calling people or knocking on their door? Besides, I’ve never done this before!”
The extremely friendly staff & experienced volunteers will tell you everything you need to know & will help you out until you’re comfortable!
It definitely doesn’t suck to make calls or knock on doors. Usually people are very cordial and you always come home with funny stories. Besides, you brought your friend/roommate! It’s ALWAYS a party with that guy!
“What else can I do to help the brave Jim Suttle?”
Come find out EVERY MONDAY at 8PM on the 3rd Floor of the Student Center for our weekly UNO Democrats meeting.
This is NOT a boring meeting.
COME SEE WHAT YOU’RE MISSING!
Can’t wait to help you join the fight on the side of good!
UNO College Democrats
1) No one actually believes that Hal Daub is being controlled by Lord Sauron or is working to take back the ring of power.
2) No one actually believes that Jim Vokol’s physical likeness to Lex Luther & Lord Voldemort has anything to do with anything (but, it’s really creepy, isn’t it?).
3) Jim Suttle, Jim Suttle for Mayor, his staff, family, and pets had absolutely nothing to do with these comments. They were from the exhausted imagination of Nikola Jordan & Nikola Jordan alone.
If you want to know about Jim Suttle’s opinions on real life topics, go to:
Welcome to the UNO Democrats website! 2008 was a great year to be a Democrat and an American, but there is still a lot of work to be done.
We are having mayoral elections in Omaha this spring, and we have a fantastic candidate, Jim Suttle, running for mayor. For more information on Jim and his platform, visit the website: www.omahanext.com. Prepare to be amazed!

Thursday nights are Student Dems nights!
Stop by the Jim Suttle office on 76th and Cass for free pizza, phone banking, and door knocking. Come for the full time (4pm-8pm) or stop by when you can!
If Thursday is not a good night, feel free to stop by any time during the week! The primary is in six weeks and not many people are thinking about who they are going to support–your help would be GREATLY appreciated!

The University of Nebraska - Omaha College Democrats is a recognized student organization on campus. Any student is invited to join us. Please browse our website to see what we’ve been up to over the past year. If you are interested in joining our great group, please contact us.
The College Democrats are involved in a number of activities on campus. We participate in intramural sports, we host speakers, we help register students to vote, assist local, state, and federal candidates running for office and much, much more! The College Democrats have quickly grown to become the largest political group on campus. The College Democrats have spent thousands of hours volunteering on political campaigns since the ’04 Presidential race; both local and national. Not only did we volunteer in Nebraska, but members of our group spent time volunteering in Missouri, South Dakota, and Iowa. We also sold more than a thousand political buttons on campus. We worked hard but we also had a lot of fun (you can see how much fun we had in our photo gallery).
If you are interested in joining, please come to any of our meetings or email us at: firstname.lastname@example.org.
