I guess I’m not the only person in America being critical of Pete Ricketts’ commercials.
Several weeks ago, I critiqued the content of one of Rickett’s commercials. Finally, Tom Nemitz has stepped up and taken aim at the aesthetic value of the commercials - more specifically the choice in fonts.
The Comic Sans Candidate - Be A Design Group
Here’s a small taste of what you can expect in this fun analysis of the commercial.
“I’m Pete Ricketts and I believe in kids, America, apple pie and fun fonts!”
Well, I’m Tom Nemitz and I believe when a congressional candidate uses Comic Sans in his television spots that he gets automatically DQ’d from my ballot. No iffs, ands, butts or serifs about it.

You’ve Got Mail: From Pete Ricketts

I agree. What is going on? Who designed that? However, on a side note, I am curious how small town, farming commercials with tractors in the background are going to get people in OMAHA and LINCOLN to get out and vote. How does this relate to the cities…such as crime, pollution, gun control, jobs, etc. Don’t get me wrong, Agriculture is the backbone of our great state and I will be the first to stand up for farmers and small towns when elected to the State Legislature, but these commercials have not one thing to do with the metro areas in our state. Just my thoughts!
I support Don Stenberg and David Kramer, not Pete Ricketts. Don’t worry Democrats, just for today.
Mr. Stenberg showed real class in refusing to take part in the Omaha Press Club Debate today because his opponents have refused to sign his positive campaign pledge. I admire his willingness to keep electoral politics headed in a positive direction.
Mr. Kramer made a strong point that summed up the debate between himself and Mr. Ricketts. According to the OWH, by Robynn Tysver, ‘He told Ricketts: “Pete, if you spend money in Washington the way you spend money on your campaign, I don’t think we can afford to have you in Washington.”‘ Good point, Mr. Kramer, Pete Ricketts can’t buy votes in Nebraska.
It’s no wonder after seeing today’s events why most of the polling data in this race shows Stenberg, Kramer, and then Ricketts bringing up the far rear in a distant third place.
I would respond to Mr. Ricketts comments regarding Sen. Nelson today, but frankly, I find them as ridiculous as the orange stocking cap he wears in his commercials. The orange stocking caps were tried by Dean supporters in Iowa during the last Presidential race when a group of students from all over the country tried to influence Iowa voters even though they knew nothing of their values and history.
Mr. Ricketts seems as out of touch with Nebraska voters sometimes as the Dean supporters were in Iowa. Then again, maybe, Mr. Ricketts is just showing us he is a closet liberal with the orange stocking caps. Will we soon see Ricketts supporters descending all over Nebraska wearing orange stocking caps? We will have to wait and see.
As for my vote in November, I’ll be voting for Sen. Ben Nelson. Sen. Nelson is the only candidate amongst the four who has an established and credible record as a true fiscal conservative and genuine voice for ALL Nebraskans. You can see Senator Nelson’s strong voting record on keeping taxes low and balancing the budget at http://www.bennelson2006.com.
Lee-
You know you’re my boy, but what is this crap about Don Stenberg showing a lot of class? You can’t possibly believe that BS!
Please, for the love of God, read what I had to say on Stenberg’s refusal to debate at the New Nebraska Network.
Think about it. In 12 years as Attorney General, when did Stenberg ever make a choice that wasn’t politically-motivated? You may not like Ricketts, but he couldn’t possibly be so terrible that our standards have been lowered to the point that we’re going to buy into Stenberg’s pathetic excuse for not holding a public debate.
There’s nothing classy about being a coward - even one that’s politically-adept. Of course, you can disagree, but you’d be wrong.
God bless ya’, buddy!
As an avid reader of the New Nebraska Network blog, I thought you would likely follow up my comment with the one you just made Kyle. Glad to see that we are all working to keep Nebraskans informed of the truth and using the first amendment to express our views as patriotic Americans.
It’s just a font. It doesn’t involve semiotics.
Either way, Stenberg’s winning my popular vote so far.
The first time I ever saw this guy I knew I wouldn’t vote for him. He constantly has this look on his face like he’s eating shit or something.
And is it just me, or does Pete Ricketts seriously look like he’s a child molestor? I know most psychologists say that you can’t tell a pedophile just by looking, but I think it’s fairly obvious this dude has a penchant for boy ass.
Oh, and by the way Lee, I personally know Stenberg, and he’s a douche too.
Anyway you all. I think I’m going to vote for Mickey Mouse in this Senate Race. He’s the only one I trust.
In so far as the repubs are concerned
I support Rickets here’s why:
he’ll spend way too much money, and it won’t get him anywhere.
that will make all other republicans who spend money less affective, it will make republicans look less good, and it will make it easier for dems to win. end of story, I support him because he’s good for dems.
as for senate? ben nelson has my vote. I know a lot of people don’t like him. so what, he’s a democrat, he is in the dem caucus, he’s not going to leave it, and he votes my way 30% of the time. The gop candidates would vote my way 5% of the time, I can’t support that. they would vote for a republican to run the show in the senate, not harry reid. I can’t support that.
Oh you democrats and your drugs…
What’s wrong with drugs? Drugs kick ass; in addition to curing numerous diseases, they make life much more enjoyable. I’m too drunk too concentrate.
I have the terrible misfortune of being wired if given morphine or codein, and getting tired if given caffeine.
Comic Sans = kindergarden
Just an FYI, Pete Ricketts will be going on Todd and Tyler (92.3) on Wednesday morning at 7:30. They had a lengthy discussion about the stocking hat this morning, I’m sure it will come up
