President:
Kara Kingsley

Our illustrious leader has played an integral part in the growth of the UNO Democrats for a few years. Hailing from Fremont, NE, Kara brings much needed laughter and determination to the meetings. Kara enjoys an array of sports, including volleyball, track, and softball. She enjoys watching movies, relaxing when time allows, spending time with friends, and sledding. When it comes to music, she likes ‘pretty much anything and everything’, which makes for some great party mixes! Some of her favorite movies include Monty Python, Moulin Rouge, Indiana Jones, Wayne’s World, Finding Nemo, and 40-Year-Old Virgin. She also enjoys watching/reading the Notebook, while crying into her milkshake as she watches. Kara has spent many of her spring breaks working in New Orleans and the Gulf Coast for Katrina Relief, on top of working part time at both Eyemasters and The Cheesecake Factory. We are proud to have Kara as our president this year!

Campus Vice President:
Brittany Grabow

The fabulous Brittany is a magnificent asset to our Exec team. As a math major, she has helped salvage and organize the finances of our club. And YES, Mr. President, you CAN borrow her to help fix the broken economy-but we want her back! When she’s not helping out the organization, Brittany enjoys reading Jane Austen, telling stories, listening to music, singing, traveling, and watching movies. She has an incredible sense of humor, and she WILL make you laugh! She works for her parents as an Accounting/Administrative Assistant, where she stays busy making sure things run smoothly. Some of her favorite movies include Hot Fuzz, Becoming Jane, Shaun of the Dead, Atonement, and many others! She has read a plethora of extraordinary literature, and has great taste in music! As previously mentioned, she is a wonderful team member who is always willing to help out! We are lucky to have her on our team!

Community Vice President:
Matt Blodgett

Our wonderful Community Vice President is new to the team this year. A proud, Jewish liberal, Matt is majoring in history here at UNO. Matt describes himself as an Anglophile, a lover of all things English, and remains a strict vegetarian. He is an active member in our club as well as the Democratic Party as a whole. Overall Matt is a happy, open-minded person who just likes to have good time, and the occasional glass of wine. We are happy Matt has decided to join our team and pick up the responsibilities of the Community Vice President! It will be a great year with Matt on board.

Secretary:
Jennifer Dotson

Our super fabulous Secretary, Jen, is a relatively new addition to the team as well. A self-described ‘typical college student’, Jen enjoys music, forensics, friends, and politics. She is a fierce hockey fan, and always looks forward to the new season of Maverick hockey. While her new favorite band is the Sick Puppies, Jen also enjoys Rilo Kiley, Tegan and Sara, Gorgol Bordello, REO Speedwagon, Styx, and many more classic rock gods. Her favorite TV shows to watch are Grey’s Anatomy, Nurse Jackie, CSI, and Ugly Betty. Some of Jen’s favorite movies include Milk (who didn’t love that movie, though?), Save the Last Dance, P.S. I Love You, and anything sappy, romantic, funny or gross. She has been a great asset to our team, always ready and willing to pitch in, and we hope she stays with us for a long time!

Treasurer:
Catherine Bogacz

Catherine Bogacz is completely awesome. She likes long walks on the beach and politics. Sometimes, if she wants to have an amazing expirence, she will talk about politics while walking on the beach. She supports fair trade, and loves to spread the word about it. She is very witty, enjoys scarcasm, and Twilight. Her favorite music includes Muse, Flight of the Concords, Coldplay, and Keane, and she is an avid fan of shows such as The Daily Show and the Colbert Report. We love having Catherine on our team, and her wit and humor are cherished at our meetings, especially after a long, hard day of classes and work! To re-iterate: Catherine is completely awesome.

Technology Chair
Kate Dowd

Kate is a fantastic addition to our executive board.  Our technology chair was new to the Dems this past semester.  Kate is a huge help in accomplishing all the behind-the-scenes work that we do.  She always volunteers to do things and then gets them done right.  The lovely Kate is also passionate about music, writing, walking, and coffee.  She works at Starbucks, so she always brings caffeinated relief to the meetings for the coffee-obsessed officers.  If you ever spot her on campus, she most likely is walking somewhere with her iPod headphones in her ears.  Her favorite artist is Josh Groban.  In her spare time she likes to write short stories. She will often join Kara in Notebook/Milkshake-crying-into festivities. She loves anything to do with the arts.  We love having Kate in the group, and we hope to see her there for a long time!  We love you, Kate!

Recruitment Chair
Alexandra Gilbert

When Alexandra walks across campus she is always listening to her ipod, which mostly consists of Linkin Park, Green Day, Incubus, Evanescence, and Lady Gaga. Her favorite movies are Nightmare Before Christmas and Kill Bill vol 1&2. Alexandra also loves any of the Batman movies, Spaceballs, Kung Fu Hustle, and Hero. She works in a library so she is always reading. She doesn’t really have a preference except for no romance books. She is an Environment Studies major so she is always working towards being green. Yay recycling! Alexandra is always up for volunteering and helping out in the community. She pretty much loves being a College Democrat because everyone is so awesome. We’re happy to have Alexandra on our team!

Events Chair:
Joe Wheeler

Joe is another new addition to our exec team. As the Events Chair, he hopes to plan some kick ass events for the UNO Democrats to attend and host. Joe is an Accounting and Chemistry major, so he is kind of a big deal. He enjoys golfing and playing racquetball, and would love to learn how to play tennis. Some of Joe’s favorite bands are Green Day, The All American Rejects, Nickelback, Fall Out Boy, Linkin Park, and Hawthorne Heights. He enjoys the TV show That 70s Show, and is a fan of movies like The Matrix, Lord of the Rings, Star Wars, Harry Potter, and Pirates of the Caribbean. Some of his favorite books are Harry Potter, The Giving Tree, and the Da Vinci Code. We are excited to have Joe on our team!

Community Outreach Chair:
Robin Vovolka

Robin has been a member of the College Dems for quite some time, and has devoted much of his time to countless campaigns, including the Obama campaign and the Suttle campaign. Robin is a Unitarian Universalist, and enjoys flying planes and playing Ultimate Frisbee. Some of his favorite bands include The Beatles, John Coltrane, and Ludacris. Robin enjoys watching the TV shows The Sopranos, Big Love, True Blood, and Mad Men. Some of his favorite movies are Pulp Fiction, Dan in Real Life, Requiem For a Dream, Garden State, and The Fountain. Robin is often very blunt and has an intriguing sense of humor, which is one of the reasons why we love having him at meetings! Robin is a great team member and friend!

Campus Outreach Chair:
Nate Gadzinski


Nate is another new addition to our exec board, transferring from Emory and Henry College in Emory, Virginia. Nate is a Geography and Political Science major and enjoys hanging out with his friends, having deep intellectual conversations past 1AM, day dreaming, writing, and, most of all, sleeping. Apart from making sure his music is ordered alphabetically, Nate enjoys listening to bands such as The Beatles, The Cranberries, Flogging Molly, Guns and Roses, Led Zeppelin, Mars Volta, the Offspring, and Simon and Garfunkel. Some of his favorite TV shows include Battlestar Galactica, The Colbert Report, Firefly, the History Channel, and West Wing. We hope to see Nate around for a long time!
