Okay - I’m slow today, sorry, yes there is a jab at the Gateway in the post, and Chief beat me to the whole “well, actually I did write for the Gateway” thing. But this is still a hilarious post. I think we need something similar for Lee Terry in the near future.

Well, first of all: I forgot how hilarious this post was, so thanks for bumping it back up!

Second, I’m not sure where the criticism of the Gateway in this particular thread is, though we have criticized the Gateway in the past.

Third, both Chief and John have written for the Gateway.

Do you know the story about the Police officer sent to ticket the guy who wrote “abstain” on the pavement in side walk chalk after Vokal abstained from voting on the Field Club issue?

For all intents and purposes that was a shakedown as well.

But in that case there was a police report, the guy won a law suit against the city, and Vokal’s been tagged for it since. Still, it’s not a story that got out too far, partially because, creepy as Vokal looks, he doesn’t have the look of a guy who would send cops to your door at the drop of a hat.

I wrote under the name of Vestrum Escrucibo (through Omaha Pulp and Omaha Reader) up until giving up my satirical Politics as Usual column 1.5 years ago. Having sent Vokal an email asking about rumors of drugs and his…er…less than conservative lifestyle, Omaha detective Steve Henthorn showed up at my house asking for a set of fingerprints from me. Seems that Vokal had been experiencing harrassment…ie., vegetables being left on his lawn, a postcard sent to his house with an orifice pictured, and alternative lifestyle mags being delivered to city hall. I directed the officer to start his investigation down at the Joy Club. Since then I’ve tried repeatedly for a copy of the police report yet none exist. I’m convinced I was the victim of a shakedown.
