Planting the seeds for one of the most absolutely insane ideas I’ve ever heard, the New York Sun penned an editorial yesterday urging Vice President Dick Cheney to run for President.

No, it was not a joke.

Seeing as how the last six years haven’t been hellish enough for all Americans, could you imagine what a Cheney presidency would look like? I don’t even want to think about it. Neither do most Americans.

But by all means, let them be that painfully stupid and arrogant. If loyalty to the Bush agenda is the litmus test for the Republican nomination for President, then they will lose this election, and it won’t even be close. Fortunately for the Republicans, their leading candidates have enough perceived distance from Bush that they can actually be competitive. Unfortunately for the Republicans, they don’t like those candidates very much - they want Arthur Branch to run for President, for God’s sake!

For example, look at this guy: he’s only been hunting twice in his life! I mean, he’s never even shot a lawyer in the face! How can they possibly take him seriously? What would happen if Dick took him on? Or took him quail hunting? Or Quayle-hunting, for that matter?

Let ‘em nominate Dick Cheney. If not literally, than at least metaphorically.
