Hey all. I’m jumping back in for a moment to give some updates on the 2008 elections.
As I’m sure you’ve all heard by now, Scott Kleeb has entered the race for United States Senate. He’ll face businessman and former Republican Tony Raimondo in the Democratic Primary. (Kleeb will be at the UNO Democrats meeting on Monday, March 24th).
Jim Esch has re-entered the race for United States Congress, and he’ll face Air Force veteran Richard Carter in the primary for the right to face Lee Terry in the fall.
Heath Mello, a former president of Nebraska Young Democrats, is running for state legislature in District 5. Another young Democrat, Jeremy Nordquist, is seeking the state legislature seat in District 7.
In some local races:
Jonathan Benjamin-Alvarado, a professor of Political Science and Latino-American Studies at UNO, is running for Omaha Public School Board in District 6.
Two UNO Democrats are running for office: Ryan Hinsley for OPS School Board, District 12; and Nick Lemek for Metro Community College Board, District 3.
And another candidate that a bunch of UNO Dems helped out in ‘06, Larry Bradley, is running for NRD Board.
One more update:
April 5 is the Nebraska Young Democrats annual state convention. This year, the convention will be held at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Go to nebraskayoungdemocrats.org for more information.
