- If you see me anytime soon, feel free to ask me about Lee Terry’s time here at UNO today. I’m not going to publish anything that was said in the class out here on the “internets,” but I’m happy to talk about it with my fellow Dems.
- Barack Obama raised $25 million from 100,000 donors, nearly matching Hillary Clinton’s $26 million from the 1st quarter, and almost certainly besting her primary fundraising for the quarter at $23.5 million. Clinton still has the likely money advantage, since she also has $10 million she transferred from her Senate campaign accounts, but Obama’s fundraising strength out of the gate punctures a hole in one of Clinton’s key advantages: the ability to raise money.
- John Edwards, meanwhile, is creeping up in the polls. Still ahead in Iowa, Edwards is now moving into second place in New Hampshire, according to a CNN poll. If Edwards wins Iowa, assuming the calendar stays the same, he could conceivably take Nevada, New Hampshire, and South Carolina – four of the first five states – and then be off to the races in a three-way battle on Super Tuesday.
- Yesterday’s Rasmussen poll is the first to include former Tennessee Senator Fred Thompson (R-TN) in a primary matchup. In yet more bad news for John McCain (more on McCain’s woes later), Thompson is within the margin of error at 14% to McCain’s 16% for second place. Giuliani leads the pack with 26%.
- The Republican fundraising numbers are a little eyebrow-raising. Mitt Romney, who is polling at about 4%, raised $20.5 million plus about $2.5 million in loans. Rudy Giuliani raised $14 million, but $10 million of that came in the month of March. John McCain raised $12.5 million, which is quite pathetic by comparison to the rest of the candidates, especially given the massive expectations.
- Recess appointments. Yeah, this President has no shame, appointing a huge donor to the Swift Boat Liars to be ambassador to Belgium, despite withdrawing the nomination last week because he wasn’t going to be confirmed by the Senate.
- Good news, as I’m sure you’ve heard today: Iran is releasing the 15 British hostages. Yes, diplomacy does work.
- Howard Dean is going to be in Omaha next Wednesday. More information available at the NDP website.
- The NYD State Convention is Saturday April 14 at Doane College in Crete, Ne. All offices are up for election, and I hope to see as many UNO Democrats as possible show up.
