Part of the ongoing U.S. Attorneys scandal is a provision that was snuck into the Patriot Act renewal that allowed the administration to appoint replacements for vacated U.S. Attorney positions without Senate confirmation.
Today, Sen Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) and Sen Arlen Specter’s (R-PA) bill to remove that loophole passed the Senate 94-2. Chuck Hagel was one of the two Senators to vote against the bill. (Kit Bond (R-MO) was the other).
Just another example of Hagel doing the Bush administration’s bidding – even in the face of blatant abuse of power.
