		<description>Yeah, but I think everybody assumed at that point that Osborne was running for Governor. It was a preemptive endorsement - and a slight to Osborne as well. In a lot of ways, Bruning&#039;s gambit here is similar. It&#039;s certainly poking Hagel in the eye a bit right after his &quot;announcement.&quot; He sets himself up as the frontrunner. One problem though: he&#039;s managed to alienate just about every other elected Republican in the state. If he doesn&#039;t win the nomination, he&#039;s finished. 

This has the potential to be a bloody primary fight. Grab some popcorn and enjoy.</description>

The speculation then is, and I think I agree, that Hagel was trying to push Osborne into the race against Nelson, because he thought Osborne was the only one who could beat Nelson (besides Johanns who had just taken a pass)- and Hagel would like nothing more than to get rid of Nelson, who he hates.</description>
