Hagel To Make An Announcement Monday

From the New York Times:

We’ve just learned that on Monday, Mr. Hagel finally will make his political intentions known. Later this afternoon, he is scheduled to announce that he is holding a press conference in Omaha to “discuss his future plans.”

It’s another cryptic announcement from Mr. Hagel, whose options include:

A.) Throwing his hat into the ring for the Republican presidential nomination.

B.) Announcing his plans to seek reelection to the Senate in 2008.

C.) Stepping down from politics when his second term expires next year.

Several Nebraska Republicans close to Mr. Hagel are betting on A, but more than a few of his admirers in the Senate are betting on B.

We’ll find out Monday.

If I had to guess, I’d say that his Nebraska colleagues have a better idea of what he is planning than his Senate colleagues, but again - we’re just speculating here. His PAC activities suggest that he’s making a move toward a national run, though. But - thankfully for me and all of you who are getting sick of me talking about Hagel’s political future - a decision is apparently coming on Monday. After that, we can start speculating on Mike Fahey and the Democrats, as well as all of the Republican candidates that are sure to come out of the woodwork.

UPDATE: The AP Story has it. Hagel will have a press conference on UNO’s campus at 10 a.m. Monday. I’m trying to think when the last time he’s been to UNO, and - well - we’re all going to be out of class that day. Good timing, Chuck.

Cant some of these Hagel threads be consolidated? Seems a bit overkill to have all these threads repeating the same information, especially since he is a republican candidate with little chance of the nomination.

Yeah, it’s a bit of overkill, lately. But my interest in Hagel’s plans have a lot more to do with the future than his actual chances of winning the Republican nomination. Mike Fahey for Senate sounds like a fun campaign. I’m getting kind of sick of writing about Hagel, myself, so I’ll be glad when the announcement comes and we can start focusing on kicking Lee Terry’s ass, again. (He’s been kind of quiet lately).

I for one am hoping that Chuck Hagel runs for President.
