[...] Lincoln Election Update
Last weekend, about eight UNO Democrats braved the weather (though it didnt turn out nearly as bad as Thursdays blizzard) to go help out Chris Beutler and other Democratic candidates in Lincoln. I thought you would all be interested in an occasional update on how things are progressing. Our friends in Lincoln can probably give a better, more detailed account, but Ill try and pass along some news items every once in a while.

Were only a month away from the primary, as the filing deadline passed on Friday for candidates to make the ballot.

For the Mayors race:

Chris Beutler, Democrat.

Ken Svoboda, Republican.

Roger Yant, Independent.

Mike Deal, Nebraska.

The top two votegetters in the primary (April 3) will advance to the general election on May 1.

Lincolns city council works a little differently than ours. Three members are elected at large every four years in non-mayoral election years. In 2005, those members were Svoboda, certifiable wingnut Robin Eschliman, and Democrat Dan Marvin. Democrats currently hold a 4-3 advantage on the Lincoln City Council. The other four members are elected by district in mayoral election years.

Up for reelection in 2007:

Jonathan Cook, Democrat, District 3. Opponent: John Erickson, Republican.

Annette McRoy, Democrat, District 4. Opponent: John Spatz, Republican.

Jon Camp, Eschlimans partner in extreme right-wing thought, is up for reelection in District 2. His opponents are Independent Allan Abbott and Republican Jane Kinsey.

And, in an open seat contest in District 1, Democrat Doug Emery faces Republican LaRae Eifert. Of course, I was trying to remember where I recognized that name from. The power of The Google. LaRae Eifert ran for Legislature in District 26, coming in third behind Danielle Nantkes and Carol Brown in the primary. She received 937 votes.

Related Posts:

Whats at Stake in Lincoln (2/20/2007).
[...]
