Lee Terry’s Hypocrisy

lee-terry-cat-in-the-hat-cropped.jpg

You may remember Lee Terry’s campaign ads during this past election, calling for independent energy as a “man on the moon-type mission.” Terry likes to think of energy as his pet issue, but like any other issue in the House, Terry has let it take a backseat to partisanship.

Terry’s issue page at his campaign website said this on energy:

I support efforts to increase the nation’s energy independence. I am a leading advocate for hydrogen fuel cell research, the I am working to finding alternatives to traditional oil-based energy is critical to our economic future as well as our national security.

Contrast that with his vote today, on H.R. 6, the Creating Long-Term Energy Alternatives for the Nation Act. On a 264-163 vote in favor, Terry voted against the bill, meant to increase energy independence and reduce our dependence on foreign oil. Apparently, for Terry, corporate welfare in the form of federal subsidies for big oil is more important than energy independence.

But that wasn’t the only bill that Terry voted against. We’ve already covered his votes against the Minimum Wage, Earmark Reform, and Homeland Security. On Friday, Terry voted against H.R. 4, the Medicare Prescription Drug Price Negotiation Act. It passed 255-170. If that weren’t bad enough, Terry justified his vote in a press release, saying he voted against a bill that would allow the government to negotiate lower prescription drug prices - to keep prescription drug prices low.

The prescription drug provisions of Medicare Part D have placed a large burden on seniors. That Medicare bill was little more than a handout to prescription drug companies. Terry’s press release reads like one of his typical rants - vague generalizations and over the top rhetoric - you can almost hear him whining… or, you can hear him whining. The plan, he says “smacks of socialization.”

Just to be clear, Lee Terry voted against a bill that enjoys 87% national support. And justifies his vote using the same sort of doublespeak you’d expect from a partisan hack like him. Lee Terry has put himself on the record against proposals that an overwhelming majority of Americans support. Putting partisanship before the people: Congressman Lee Terry.

    Dave-
sorry to keep messing with your posts, but frankly, that lee terry in a seuss hat photo needs to get used WAY more. Way way more.

Perhaps we should even make it our new college dems blog logo.

“Smacks of socialization”? Hahahahaha! I seriously cannot stop laughing out loud at the thought of him saying that. The Doctor Seuss hat simply adds more to the laughter!

Seriously, what does that even mean? Does he hear this lip-smacking sound whenever a social issue comes to his ears? Turn up your hearing aid, Terry! That’s 87% of the population saying it’s a good idea!

Oh, Dave. Your biting criticism of Lee Terry brings a smile to my heart. Keep up the good work.
