Hey Yellow Dogs, seen this?

Republican Dirty Tricks hit Lancaster County.

Dear Nebraska Democrat,

We've got a big problem and we need your help to solve it.

Earlier today NDP Campaign Director Ian Russell testified at a public hearing on the rules and regulations for satellite voting. He's reported back that the current plan making it through will boost Republican turnout in Lincoln - and set a dangerous precedent for the general elections.

You can find more about this and how you can help here:

www.nebraskademocrats.org/stopgale

Instead of making sure that convenient locations are spread evenly the commission is putting satellite voting locations only in neighborhoods where Republicans outnumber Democrats by almost two to one.

This is a big deal. In Omaha, it would be the equivalent of putting all Douglas County voting locations in Ralston, Millard, and Elkhorn, and nothing east of 72nd Street.

We're in favor of the concept of satellite voting, but it needs to be done right. It shouldn't be a taxpayer-subsidized Republican voter turnout program. It is unacceptable that the Election Commissioner and the Secretary of State - both Republicans - are using their offices to change the map of Nebraska elections in favor of their own party. We cannot let this sort of partisan gerrymandering stand.

Here's the bottom line: If we don't tell them to stop, they might just get away with this. It's up to each of us - as Nebraskans - to voice our concerns and then spread the word.

Any NE-01 residents up at UNO, or anyone who cares about fair elections in Nebraska should phone, write, or email Secretary of state John Gail and tell him that Satellite Voting should be implemented in a fair, open, and transparent manner.

Great job today everyone! The training sessions were enjoyable and productive. The Yellow Dog University training sessions exceeded all our expections.

It was wonderful to see so many high school and college students excited about being involved in politics and hopefully they'll use what they learned today to help Democrats win in 06'.

David, Chad, Cody, Gary, Ryan and the rest of the UNO Dems who worked so hard on putting on Yellow Dog University deserve a big round of applause.

It was encouraging to see students from Drake, Kansas State, UNK and throughout the region. UNO Dems are truly becoming regional leaders for Young Democrats.

Sorry I couldn't make it guys. The Caucus had an executive meeting.
It sounds like it was agreat success though. I never doubted that it would be!

Kudos to everyone that worked so hard to make the event a success.

I'm feeling kind of lonely in Internet-land. UNO Dems - don't leave me hanging. I can't just keep refreshing my website when I need a reminder that Nebraska's on-line Democratic community exists. Of course, I know you guys are hard at work - knocking doors for candidates, fighting the good fight street by street - but it would be a damn shame to let this fantastic site fall into disrepair.

Of course, I've quit blogging 2 or 3 times in my year of running the New Nebraska Network - I really shouldn't be talking. Here's hoping this is just a temporary vacation, and you guys will get back to kicking some online ass real soon.

No worries Kyle--We're simply drummin' up some suspense for the next barrier-breaking blog. Sure, we could point out the details of the under-handed deal that is the trasnfer of the port management responsibilities to a country with known terroriest ties, we could describe in detail the fall of Bush's approval rating to record lows (and that's saying something), or we could (and this is my suggestion to Chief, Madison, Hamilton, etc.) simply discuss the unparalled greatness Derek Jeter and the Yankees and their sure trip to the top this upcoming October. I know you'll be back in the next day or so to find out, and hopefully so will the rest of UNO blog frequents.

Cody, Lee-

You know I'll be reading whatever gets posted. Looking forward to whatever y'all have in store for us - unless it's this pro-Yankees propaganda. As a Democrat in Nebraska, how could I be anything but a Chicago Cubs fan?

THE DREAM WILL NEVER DIE!

[...] At Saturday’s Forever Young Dinner, the UNO College Democrats were awarded Nebraska Young Democrats 2006 Chapter of the Year. From protesting Bush again, to Yellow Dog University, volunteering thousands of hours for candidates, or paying tribute to the fallen, we have been the most active group on campus and the most active chapter of Nebraska Young Democrats. We’ve been kicking ass for three years now, and it’s because of each and every person in this group. The semester is almost over, but we’ll be back in January and better than ever. We’re just getting started! [...]
