Hey, It's about time UNO Mavs women's soccer got some press. These women are aggressive and and play their hearts out. The quality of athletics these women show off to the state and the nation is deserving of praise and recognition. Maybe now people will start to see that Omaha is a first rate school worthy of first rate respect, not Lincoln's little sister. Go Nebraska State Mavs!!!!!!!!!!

I just got done watching the game on net2 and I think the soccer girls have a lot of passion, while bringing pride to UNO. We all should be proud of these girls. I'm excited for Don and the rest of the girls. GO MAVS!!!!

sarge, I hate to say this, but it may be a while before people recognize UNO as something other than "Lincoln's little sister." Last semester, I wrote an article about how the local media chose to flaunt two possible recruits for the Husker football team instead of covering our marching band performing at the Inaguration.

Regardless, Go Mavs!

Hey Matthew Lytle, that's exactly the kind of attitude that keeps holding UNO back. Once again, thanks for being part of the problem, not part of the solution. However, thank you for your article, poor grammar and all, about our beloved band. We love them, we love our great UNO football team and we love UNO! OH, and we REALLY love our UNO Dems! One of the most active Democratic college groups in the great US of A!

Go Mavs!

Thank you for your words, but it's not an attitude when more press is given to a Husker victory than a Maverick victory. It's minimal observation. Just look at the sports sections of the Omaha World Herald a couple of months back, and there you go. Most of the “College Football” inserts, 8 pages long, featured about two-thirds of a page about the Maverick game, and about five full pages all about the Husker game.

Personally, I'm irritated that here we are, in the same city as these media outlets, and they give more press time to a university an hour away. But this “attitude” you’re talking about won’t go away until the local media starts giving UNO as much time and print as they do the Huskers, and UNO will get the pride sarge was referring to. (I’d like to see what sarge is talking about happen. I’d like to see UNO respected more than it currently is.)

UNO is a great place, but I just get irritated when the media would rather focus on Husker loss than a UNO win, especially when we’re in their backyard.
From what I’m reading in tomorrow’s Gateway, they’ve won the national championship. But, and let’s use Sunday’s OWH as an example, though the story’s on the front of the Sports section, it’s not the most prominent story. (The most prominent one is about the Texas-Colorado game.) We may soon gain such respectability, but it’s going to take some time.

Hey Matt!!!
I have no clue who you think you are? You are on one of the worst newspapers in the game! Woodward and Bernstein would use that nonsense to wipe their asses if they could. The UNO Gateway has poor grammar, poor spelling mistakes, and needs a good copy editor, let alone, good writers. A good visual arts director and layout editor would help as well. Michelle Bishop is the only one in her right mind! She will succeed in this field! I would hope you would take a good look at the Daily Nebraskan and find out what a real paper is before you put down those in College Democrats and use your own bullshit work as an example. Look at the Central High School Register as a clear example of an award winning newspaper. There is a real paper, and you and your pathetic UNO Gateway should really wake up and smell the shit! So think next time about what comes out of your mouth when you yourself need to re-read the APA Style Book and take a course on the fundamentals of journalism!

I thought this thread was about UNO Soccer, not attacking the Gateway. Oh well.

But since we're on the topic, Journalism Major, if you think you can do a better job of managing the Gateway, why not go apply for the job yourself? Besides, if you had actually read the article I referenced, I criticized the Omaha World Herald and Channel 7 News, not the College Democrats.

In all truths, I think you're the one in need of a fundamentals in journalism class, namely because the stylebook used in journalism is written by the Associated Press (AP), not the American Psychological Association (APA). And it "I have no clue who you think you are." Surely a journalism major would have picked that out.

Ok, everyone chill out. This is supposed to be about the accomplishments of UNO soccer, not personal issues. If you guys really want to go at it you should set up a time and place, lay some ground rules and duke it out. Otherwise argue on a thread that could possibly invoke arguement, like about how the U.S. is in trouble or if you like Bush or prefer shaved or what the hell ever, but seriously congratulations to UNO Women's soccer on a job well done, I think that's an idea everyone can get behind.
