Greetings UNO Democrats-
I was proud to be asked to stop by for this joyous celebration. Chief and the gang have been kind enough to sport a link to my own website, the New Nebraska Network, for quite some time, and I’m happy to repay their kindness by wishing this beautiful blog the happiest of birthdays.
The New Nebraska Network has not been around as long as this site. It’s a full four months younger, which, in “Internet years,” is actually a fairly long time. Still, I feel no shame at all in playing kid brother to my more-experienced and OBVIOUSLY more tech-savvy UNO counterparts. Seriously – the confetti banner, the calendar, the pictures of smiling, sexy Democrats - you guys are like the Batman of Nebraska bloggers – “where do you get such wonderful toys?”
Alas, the New Nebraska Network is more barebones – partially because of my laziness but mostly because I’m just not very technologically-inclined. Despite my best efforts to liven things up with an occasional graphic, this leaves words and ideas the only thing I really have to offer. And, on that front, I think I do a pretty good job combating the conservative spin that too often sneaks its way into Nebraska journalism, while also offering a daily dose of progressive thought on happenings in Nebraska politics.
In general, the New Nebraska Network avoids national issues because, frankly, I’d never stop ranting. Besides, there are lots of great progressive websites doing a better job than I could covering national politics. But, Nebraska is my home, and its people are who I know and care for the most. If “all politics is local,” as Tip O’Neill said, and we really care about changing this country – restoring it to the path of peace and progress – then that change will only begin in our neighborhoods and on our campuses speaking on the issues most relevant to peoples] lives.
Please stop by the New Nebraska Network when you get the chance. Comment freely, spread the word, and know that I will be right here doing the same. We are stronger together, and, eventually - on the great issues that will define our nation and our generation - we will win because we’re not afraid to challenge and BE CHALLENGED.
Democracy works. This blog, the inspiration it spreads, and the changes it will bring are continuous proof of that. Congratulations to all! Keep talking about things that matter – keep the debate alive and never let the haters get you down.

If I can be so bold there is another outstanding website with a blog called Omahaimc.org. There are a number of progressive writers and one can write their own articles and comment on them as well. As the name points out it is a local (Omaha) thang. Check it out!
