4 - Thank You, George!

We would like to take a moment to give thanks to our President, George W. Bush. Since George began running this nation and world into the dirt, Democrats in red states like ours have begun coming out of the woodwork. In fact, our organization is pretty much indebted to the man.

As summer 2004 winded down, the University of Nebraska at Omaha College Democrats was a humble, but consistent group of 36 members, with about 10 attending every meeting. As George was gearing up for re-election, so were the college students gearing up to defeat him in the November election.

By the end of the semester, College Democrats had grown to include 126 members, of which 25 consistently attended weekly meetings. Over 500 hours of volunteer work was logged to defeat George W. Bush and get Democratic candidates elected locally and nationally.

As spring approached, the democratic spirit on campus thrived. The group, fueled by the great message of the Democratic Party and the shameful way Republicans are leading this nation, continued to grow at record rates. Currently, over 350 people claim to be members of the UNO College Democrats, and an average of 45 show up weekly to further the democratic cause on campus.

Now, with a sense of dedication to save our nation from the hapless Republican leaders, the UNO College Democrats march forward on the same mission, but this time with a much bigger army.

Chad, thanks for making this point. I can definitely say he is the reason why I joined college Democrats in 04, and a major factor in deciding my party in the first place. Coming from a private shool in West O, it is great to be able to share openly my ideas with a group of like minded people. When my first political thoughts were forming at the beginning of high school, I knew that this man did not represent what I hold true to myself, and the values that I stood up for. Im glad I am a part of such a great group! Thanks George!

Chad, I recently ate lunch with the V.P. of the UNO Republicans. She was bragging about how great the Republican group is doing with membership, organization and vision. I told her to come to the open mike session on Tuesday and if she wanted to come to talk to our group if she can. I do not know how you feel about it but she, Michelle Pacovsky, sounded excited about the invitation. My perception of their group was a lot different from what she was saying. I have always been a Democrat but try to keep an open mind. It would be interesting if she has an opportunity to talk to the group. I told her to bring a couple of body guards though.

What can I say, if it weren’t for George Bush the world would be more peaceful, millions could sleep better, the continent of Europe wouldn’t hate the US so much, and maybe a couple of soldier’s lives would be saved by ending this frivolous invasion of Iraq . But I would have to say with out George Bush I would have missed out on a lot of great times with the College Dems, great parties, fried food and “soda” at clancy’s, as well as an overall kickASS time. Thanks College Dems, let us vow to never let another republican idiot run our country into the ground again!!!

  4. 4 Mike M Nov 9th, 2005 at 9:56 pm

Amanda, the continent of Europe? I think you failed to mention the continents of South America, Australia, Asia, Africa, and Im going to go out on a limb and say a majority of North America…oh and penguins hate him too, so I would say Antartica has a pretty big anti-Bush following.

  5. 5 Dave Sund Nov 10th, 2005 at 12:24 pm

Apparently, and I haven’t seen them myself yet, the College Republicans have buttons now?

  6. 6 Cody Nov 10th, 2005 at 12:30 pm

They had a table today. Their buttons are pre-fab merchandise. Most of it is actually left over supplies from the ‘04 election. I guess the highest form of flattery is imitation right? We accept the compliment.

  7. 7 Erin R. Nov 10th, 2005 at 12:42 pm

Yes, the Republicans sell buttons on campus. I will say that their buttons are not near as clever or visually appealing. Since I am on the topic of the College Republicans, I would like to point out (going somewhat off of Rufino’s comment) that they meet once a month, according to flyers. That means that College Democrats meets as a group four times as much as the Republicans. That comparison does not even include our officer meetings, parties, or political events. If they think they can accomplish a lot, just think of how much more we are capable of doing.
Also, this post makes a very great point. There isn’t much we can thank Georgie for except creating more Democrats. His presidency had a lot to do with my decision to join College Democrats. I am embarrassed to say that I registered as a Republican during high school before Georgie and looking into the party stances on issues.

  8. 8 Dave Sund Nov 10th, 2005 at 2:05 pm

I suppose I was fortunate enough to never be a Republican, though I’m ashamed to admit that I thought of myself as one before I was voting age. It was the war that made me decide to be a Democrat. As I became more educated on the issues, I realized that’s where I belong.

  9. 9 Mike M Nov 10th, 2005 at 6:12 pm

Erin and Dave, I think a majority of uninformed teens, in my experience, register as republicans, possibly because of the big presence in Nebraska or what their parents are. Who knows, but most of the kids I talk to who register as republican dont know anything about their party’s stances on the issues.

Jorge, I mean Joe, it’s great to hear from you again. And it’s a pleasure to delete your pointless comments.

If you spent a little time actually making comments that were on topic and about something, then they would get approved. Instead you just post the same thing over and over again. I look forward to seeing your future comments.

  12. 12 Jorge Nov 11th, 2005 at 9:08 pm

I did I wanted to thank President Bush just like you guys and you delete my comments. I wanted to talk about the point of false intelligence leading up to the war in Iraq, Deleted. I talked about the Roberts nomination, Deleted. I talked about the Alito nomination, Deleted. All for what is the reason again. Censorship. but this too will surely be deleted.

I am glad you didnt delete my comments. I am glad you dont believe in censorship anymore. What do you guys think of the false intelligence leading up to the war in Iraq. If president bush lied about the wmd’s. He must of been the only one in the world who knew Saddam didnt have them. We all know the democrats all thought he had them. For that I want to thank the president along with you guys.

    To Jorge, or Joe:
This blog is in place to people can come together and talk about what’s going on in the world. All you have done in the past is insult other users of the bolg, criticize the blog, and make asinine comments that are of no importance.

If you have any actual comments that do not consist of third-grade insults, this blog will be happy to have you as a guest. Until then, I stand behind whomever is ‘deleting’ your comments.

So pease, quit being such a child about everything. We are all adults. It’s time we all start acting as such. I want you to continue to come to this blog, and I love to see views that are different than mine, but lets have an actual diologue.

I look foward to hearing from you. And please don’t call me an idiot. I know that’s your first response to anything anit-Joe.

  15. 15 Rufino Nov 18th, 2005 at 8:56 pm

Thank’s for letting Jorge or Joe’s remarks stay. I am pretty much a strict constructionalist when it comes to the first amendment. As I have stated before, people should be able to display their stupidity. Just remember, even though it sounds like an oxymoron, sometimes fools have something to say that is insightful and meaningful. Of course, everyone should use common human decency and manners. Although, that is sometimes a matter of individual choice.
Anyway, I am glad that Representative Murtha, Democrat from Pennsylvania, finally put forth the position of the majority of the American people by stating “Let get out of Iraq”. We have done what we needed to do militarily. One, we went in because of WMD but they were not there so we indirectly took care of that objective. Second, we got rid of Sadam Hussain. Now, our troops, friends and relatives are just targets for the insurgents. We need to get out of there before more of them come home in body bags or crippled. Bush is freakin butcher and war monger. He should send his daugthers there to fight and die. They are of age and many other women american soldiers have died there. If he is in such favor of the war he should prove it by sending his children.

I am sorry that I have not complied to your criteria for adding something to this blog. I see my comments are being moderated now. Thanks. So much for the first amendment.

    Amanda Says:

What can I say, if it weren’t for George Bush the world would be more peaceful, millions could sleep better, the continent of Europe wouldn’t hate the US so much, and maybe a couple of soldier’s lives would be saved by ending this frivolous invasion of Iraq .

How exactly are we safer?? More peaceful?? Why do we care what Europe thinks? Just wondering. John Kerry would better deal with this how? By negotiating with Saddam Hussein? By trying to sign our soverignty to Kofi Annan? By trashing his country…he seems to be great at doing that….but after all, like all prominent leftists, (not all Democrats), his message is “I hate Bush” “Bush is bad” “Republicans are brain dead” (as said by your party’s leader) “Republicans are only for the wealthy” “War is for oil” etc etc etc ad nauseum. Nowhere in there is a message from your party.

But I would have to say with out George Bush I would have missed out on a lot of great times with the College Dems, great parties, fried food and “soda” at clancy’s, as well as an overall kickASS time. Thanks College Dems, let us vow to never let another republican idiot run our country into the ground again!!!

Good that you have your priorities in order, Amanda.

As you, the racist poverty pimp Spike Lee, and your liberal press, (the moe, larry and curly networks, CNN/Al-Jazeera,USA, The New York/AL-Queda Times, and USA/Hillary Today celebrate the anniversary of that hideous sight in New Orleans and blame the administration for what 40 years of Democratic legislation caused (can you say Great Society??)….remember the first 3 lines of defense failed first…the citizens themselves….the mayor, and the governor….all Democrats…..all clueless…all dependent…all inept. When governments at all levels take the minority father out of the home and replace him with handouts….both the fathers and the children are victims. You say thank you George Bush….You should be thanking your own leadership. Thank God they are not in the White House during these times.
