Dave Nabity for Governor

On Monday, Omaha businessman Dave Nabity formally announced his run for governor.

Dave Nabity for Governor

Here is Nabity’s position on some controversial topics…

I will not support legislation using taxpayer dollars for embryonic stem-cell research in any venue, including UNMC.

Wait it gets better…

Human embryonic stem-cell research is scientifically unnecessary due to the fact that other research methods, which use stem cells from adults to develop treatments for many diseases, have recently been successful. A 1999 article in the British Medical Journal concluded that human embryonic stem cells, “may soon be eclipsed by the more readily available and less controversial adult stem cells.

Wow, Nabity is using data from 1999 to defend his position on stem-cell research. I’m not a scientist but I know a lot changes in 6 years. Did we even have color television in 1999?

Although I’m a strong proponent of states’ rights, over-zealous activist federal judges attempting to redefine marriage have convinced me that a federal Constitutional amendment, defining marriage as between a man and woman, is an amendment I would support.

Let me share with you a couple interesting things I spotted. On Nabity’s website, it said that one of his hobbies is the Great Plains Porsche Club. Why am I not surprised? Nabity is a past State Chairman of the Young Republicans of Nebraska. Also, Nabity has enough family members to field a baseball team (if they let their dog Cocoa play).

So what do you think of Dave Nabity? What does Nabity have to do to have any chance of beating Tom Osborne?

Hi gang! The republicans are gearing up for 2006 and we need your help to do the same. Please register for Camp Connealy and if you need a scholarship let me know. On Saturday June 25th the Young Democrats are going to be hosting an event at Clancy’s hope you can join us!

    On to Victory!

  3. 3 SGT_E Jun 9th, 2005 at 8:56 pm

I honestly couldn’t care less who the governor of Nebraska is. TO is going to win by a landslide though.

  4. 4 adam Jun 10th, 2005 at 9:13 pm

    Same speil…………
“err on the side of life”
    “small, limited government”
    “activist judges”
    ………..Republicans are too predictable.

Conversly, the democrats have Howard Dean, who speaks truth to power and then gets lambasted by the whorish mainstream media.

  5. 5 SGT_E Jun 11th, 2005 at 9:22 am

Conversly, the democrats have Howard Dean, who speaks truth to power and then gets lambasted by the whorish mainstream media.

That has to be the funniest thing I have ever read. Howard Dean is a lunatic. Even his own party sees this. Joe Biden was condemning his thoughtless rhetoric and trying to distance himself from Dean. Howie is the best thing to happen to the Republicans in years. At least Terry raised money fro the party, Howard is even failing to do that right now.

  6. 6 adam Jun 11th, 2005 at 11:40 am

Democrats who critize Howard Dean’s comments are not democrats in my opinion.

Dean said that the republicans are “a mostly white christian party”. THATS 100% true. Every part of the republican agenda has been geered towards their white christian base. (i.e. Terry Schaivo, Bankruptcy bill, Class Action reform, TAX CUTS…..ECT). But are these agenda items truly christian? Democrats have fought for expanded healthcare, more benifits for veterans, workers rights, economic fairness, tolerance, women’s rights ect. Democrats fight for everything that Jesus Christ preached about (i.e Helping out the least among thee!!!!!!!)

Dean said “alot of Republicans have not made a honest days living”. Absolutely true. However, if you were to read newspapers or watch Fox News you would believe that Howard Dean said that “ALL republicans have never made honest days living”. Dean said ALOT….NOT ALL. ALot could represent 20% or 30% or 50%. I believe that the upper class that John Edwards refers to, the upper class which is predominanly republican, have never had to go out and make an honest days living.

My point is that Howard Dean speaks truth to power. However, the lazy, right-wing media spins and takes out of context everything Dean says. And for Biden; He is part of the Washington establishment that is out of sinc with the base of the democratic party. Joe Biden voted for NAFTA, which has resulted in the loss of more than 900,000 manufacturing jobs. Those people that are losing their jobs becuase of the trade policies endorsed by Joe Biden, are the base of the democratic party. Joe Biden, while a mostly honest and genuine man, needs to realize that the Democratic party is the party of the working man and women and not the party of rich trial lawyers. The hard working people of this country DO NOT want a democratic party that DOES NOT stand up for them. THAT IS WHY WE NEED HOWARD DEAN. Also, democrats do not need advice from right wingers like SGT E.

  7. 7 Robin Q Jun 11th, 2005 at 3:18 pm

    SGT E,

Once again misinformed again. Howard Dean is doing a wonderful job with his fundraising efforts. In fact Nebraska is the latest beneficiary of his fundraising efforts.

Maybe if that so called liberal media bias you are always complaining about would put his fundraising in the proper context then you wouldn’t think that we are in desperate need of money.

In fact, Dean raised $14.8 million between February and April 2005 (the latest data available), compared with the DNC’s $8.5 million during that period in 2003, the previous non-election year, and compared with the DNC’s $13.7 million in so-called “hard money” raised in the first six months of 2001. (It should be noted that since 2001, the contribution limits to national parties have increased as a result of the Bipartisan Campaign Reform Act.)

Moreover, the DNC has raised more in comparison to the RNC over the past three months than it did during 2003. The RNC raised $32.4 million between February and April, about 2.2 times the rate of the Democrats, as Media Matters for America noted; over the same period in 2003, the RNC raised $25.7 million, more than three times the rate of the DNC. Media Matters compiled statistics from February through April, rather than the first-quarter statistics that BusinessWeek used, because Dean did not assume leadership of the DNC until February 12

    Facts taken from media matters.

  10. 10 Joe Jun 13th, 2005 at 10:19 pm

I’m all for Howard Dean. He is awesome for the democratic party. Democrats need to rally behind Howard and support him as much possible. Get the word out about Howard Dean and let every one you know try and listen to him. He is good for politics.

  11. 11 Joe Jun 14th, 2005 at 10:29 am

Answer this question for me guys. Do you believe George Walker Bush is a evil man.

  12. 12 Abbey Jun 16th, 2005 at 10:00 pm

Why do you keep asking that? Its sort of a black and white question. Not everything is good or evil. It just doesn’t work that way.

…no. I do not like George W. Bush.

  13. 13 Bill Jun 28th, 2005 at 9:10 am

I thought this was supposed to be about Nabity. If you don’t want Nabity as Nebraska’s next gov then focus people.

  14. 14 adam Jun 28th, 2005 at 5:15 pm

Bill, there is no open thread. Cut us a little slack. Moreover, I will not waste my time getting all excited about a governor’s race that will result in a Tom Osborne landslide. If I had to choose, I would want Matt Connealy to be the next governor, However, that will never happen. A democrat winning the governship in Nebraska is just about as likely as finding WMD in Iraq.

  15. 15 Bill Jun 29th, 2005 at 1:38 pm

That’s the spirit Adam. Never say die. While I agree that Osborne’s popularity is going let him sail to a victory, an active opposition can use an election, even when its going to be one-sided, to spread its message. And that is no waste of time. It’s defeated attitudes, like yours, that are largely responsible for the current state of the democratic party in this country.

I’m sure I don’t need to remind you that the democrats have held the nebraska captial before. Does the name Ben Nelson ring a bell. Yes thats him….former GOVERNOR and current SENATOR. Granted he is not the most liberal democrat in world. Here’s a few more:

    J Robert Kerry 1983-1987
JJ Exon 1971-1979 (and then 3 terms in the US senate)
    Frank Morrison 1961-1967
    Ralph Brooks 1959-1960
    Robert Cochran 1935-1941
    Charles Bryan 1923-1925
    Keith Nevile 1917-1919
    John Moorehead 1913-1917….and so on

  16. 16 adam Jun 29th, 2005 at 3:25 pm

I was not being defeated in attitude. I was just being realistic about the prospects of the dems winning this race. I will most likely vigourously support the democratic canidate, including donating money. However, the chances of a dem beating Osborne are about as likely as a republican beating a congressional democrat in massachusetts.

On the other hand, If Osborne were not running, then I believe Connealy would have a chance against Heineman. Also, besides Bob Kerrey, I can’t remember a true liberal democrat winning in Nebraska.

  17. 17 Joe Jun 29th, 2005 at 3:42 pm

Bill the democrats you listed other than Exon Kerrey are probably about as conservative as Bush is. Hell Nelson is as good as republican. Hell I dont care who wins his seat in 06 either way we will have a republican. Nelson is a Republican. Goodnews for me.

  18. 18 Tony C. Jun 29th, 2005 at 4:12 pm

No, no… Nelson is centrist, moderate, and fairly reasonable. So, obviously, he cannot be Republican by the very definition of what it is to be Republican. Joe, you are a prime example of what it is to be Republican: you’re self-righteous, ignorant, irrational, and fascist. So, fortunately for everyone, Nelson is not Republican!! Yay!!

  19. 19 Joe Jun 29th, 2005 at 4:20 pm

Prolife against gay marriage and for lower taxes. Sounds like a Republican to me. Tony you call me a fascist but I think you say taht cause your democrat senator is ashamed of you guys and you can’t take it so you have to resort to calling republicans fascist I feel bad for you Tony “Tiger”. I hope you grow up and understand the political system. Untill then keep your mouth shut and go hug some trees.

  20. 20 Tony C. Jun 29th, 2005 at 4:43 pm

No Joe… I call you a fascist because you’ve blindly let your demagogue of a party whore out any integrity and noble aspirations you might have had. I call you fascist for not separating yourself from your party and for not adhering to the humanistic principles you espouse. And don’t get me wrong, this goes for anyone who does this–Democrat or Republican. In the end though, I don’t really care what you do… you’ll always be “Joe.”

  21. 21 Joe Jun 29th, 2005 at 5:06 pm

Pretty convenient when you don’t agree with someone’s point of view to just call them a fascist. I must say that sure does make an argument easier. Tony “Tiger” keep it up you just hurt your party. I feel sorry for people like you who have no argument just name calling.

  22. 22 Tony C. Jun 29th, 2005 at 6:17 pm

    Oh yeah… I forgot pretentious.

  23. 23 adam Jun 29th, 2005 at 7:35 pm

“Prolife against gay marriage and for lower taxes. Sounds like a Republican to me.”…………lol

You forgot the part of how republicans are for deficit spending. Or how republicans want to write laws that allow the government to supercede family decisions about pulling the plug. Or how republicans still can’t accept the fact that Global Warming is occuring.

  24. 24 Joe Jun 29th, 2005 at 7:48 pm

Oh yeah Nelson voted for our judges too. Forgot about that one. Go Nelson I dont know who is more of a republican Kramer or Nelson.

  25. 25 adam Jun 29th, 2005 at 8:34 pm

Check your facts. Nelson voted against Pricella Owen. The difference between Nelson and Kramer is that Nelson will vote for Democratic Leadership and against the Republican budget. According to www.progressivepunch.org, Ben Nelson voting record is the 45th most liberal senator. Conversly, Kramer will vote the way his daddy tells him to vote. Besides Hagel and a few others, there are no independent thinking republicans.

  26. 26 Joe Jun 29th, 2005 at 9:03 pm

haha what a crock a shit. Nelson is as conservative as I am. Prolife, against gay marriage, lower taxes. C’mon Adam Nelson knows who is Daddy is.

  27. 27 adam Jun 29th, 2005 at 9:15 pm

I just proved to you that Ben Nelson was more liberal than every republican in the senate. Are those three issues all you idiots care about.

  28. 28 Joe Jun 29th, 2005 at 9:21 pm

Well Adam those pretty much define if you are liberal or conservative. And clearly Ben Nelson is much more conservative than every other democrat in the Senate. Now that Zell Miller is not there anymore Ben is the most conservative Democrat in the Senate.

  29. 29 Joe Jun 29th, 2005 at 9:32 pm

and by the way there are prochoice republican senators, so no ben is not more liberal than every republican in the senate.

  30. 30 adam Jun 29th, 2005 at 10:51 pm

Barry Goldwater was pro-choice. I don’t imagine you would call him a liberal.

Also, ideology is not solely based on the social/cultural issues but also economic issues, foreign policy issues, enviromental issues ect. The link I provided gave a holistic ideology rating…..not just the three issues you mentioned. Hence, I would consider Ben Nelson slightly more progressive than Linc Chafee, Olympia Snowe, Susan Collins ect. Now we can argue about the definition of what a conservative and a liberal is, however, it is not important becuase the Republican party is not conservative anymore. The republican party is a extreme right-wing party which is not conservative.

  31. 31 Tony C. Jun 30th, 2005 at 1:11 am

adam, I wouldn’t waste your time arguing with Joe… he wouldn’t know what you’re talking about anyways. For all we know, he still believes in abiogenesis… What a fascist!!

  32. 32 Tony C. Jun 30th, 2005 at 1:14 am

Oh and Joe… don’t get too pissed. I’m only teasing you, but I will admit, you are a bit too sensitive about being called fascist…

  33. 33 Joe Jun 30th, 2005 at 11:55 am

    its ok your a Nazi.

  34. 34 Abbey Jun 30th, 2005 at 1:08 pm

Did anybody here kill 3 million Jews? No? Okay, nobody here is a Nazi.

    So stupid…

  35. 35 chief Jun 30th, 2005 at 1:22 pm

Hey Joe, why don’t you watch this video before you go around calling people Nazis…

  36. 36 Tony C. Jun 30th, 2005 at 3:09 pm

Incredible link chief!! HAHAHA!! Joe is soooo ignorant! What a choad!!

  37. 37 Joe Jun 30th, 2005 at 3:45 pm

OOHHH Joe is a Choad, wait no he is a fascist wait no he is ignorant wait he stupid, wait no he is apart of the right wing conspiracy wait no joe wants to ruin the world with his extreme right wing ideas of abstinence and protecting the rights of the unborn. Wait HE IS RIGHT. Who is the D bag that talks like that. That is TONY COSTELLO. What a CLOWN.

  38. 38 Joe Jun 30th, 2005 at 4:58 pm

Chief that is a funny link. Jon Stewart is hilarious isnt he. And the reason I called him a nazi is because that thug Tony “Tiger” Costello keeps on calling me a fascist. Don’t dish it out if you can’t dish it up. Stewart maybe biased but he is one hell of a comedian.

  39. 39 Tony C. Jun 30th, 2005 at 5:34 pm

I’m also beginning to think that Joe is illiterate. I mean, this guy’s grammar is horrible! Fascist Joe’s “insults” are not at all offensive when I have to decipher what he’s saying. Jeez, what a fascist!

Alright, I know… that’s a low blow. Joe is not completely illiterate: He can obviously read. But c’mon Joe, quit being such a fascist and correct your grammar.

  40. 40 Joe Jun 30th, 2005 at 9:36 pm

Tony I don’t mind debating liberals. I mean look I debate chief, I debate Robin, I debate Abbey I have no problem with them in fact I kinda like them. But Tony you are so stupid and you act like such a clown I am degrading my self to a level that frankly Im just better than when I take time out of my day to even recognize you. So if you want to debate that’s fine. But since you can’t even do that properly and all you want to do is call me a fascist which to tell you the truth I don’t even think you know what that word means, im not even going to recognize someone as sad and as inexperienced as you are when it comes to debating. Tony if it makes you happy I am a fascist you caught me I am a huge fascist I can’t help it the republican party makes me that way feel bad for me. Tony it is nice talking to you and since you can’t conduct yourself as an adult I will not respond to your childish remarks or comments. It is not worth my time or anyone else’s to talk to some like Tony Costello his intellect is far inferior to mine or anybody else’s on this blog. Therefore this fascist won’t waste his time on a looney like Tony.

  41. 41 Joe Jun 30th, 2005 at 11:16 pm

lol Cheif Stewart said not to go around and compare people to Hitler. I didn’t say anything about Hitler I believed I used the word nazi. No but seriously that was a hillarious link. Stewart is besides Conan the funniest comedian in America I think. Great comedian.

  42. 42 Joe Jun 30th, 2005 at 11:16 pm

Way to use my insults against me… you really are just a retarded parrot. And no Joe, you do not debate. You’ve never debated. You can kiss Abbey’s, chief’s, and Robin’s asses all that you want, but I can assure you that you have NEVER debated them. You see, debating involves reason and evidence. I have yet to witness you using such tools. You’re also a coward: I mean, for some reason you feel as if you ought to conceal your identity. For example, from the “Thank you Mr. President” thread, “You don’t even know who I am and maybe if you did you wouldn’t talk to me like that and tell me I don’t know anything about politics.” So why do you conceal your identity, Joe?!?… Oh wait, I know, because you know you are a MORON. You’re also a spaz: Anybody who cries simply because they’ve been called a “fascist” is a total baby. Grow some balls Joe. You’ve got nothin’ on me because in the end, you know I’m simply doing to you, exactly what you’ve been doing to us: annoying the shit out of everybody. And before you rewrite another one of your extremely “witty” and tautological rebuttals, please know that while I’ve enjoyed–and I’m sure others will join me in this–seeing you with your panties in a ruffle, I think I’ll retire from explicitly insulting you for a while… it’s too easy and it’s really not my thing. Plus, I enjoy healthy debate, as do the rest of us.

  44. 44 Joe Jul 1st, 2005 at 12:58 am

Tony I’ve already retired from talking to you.

  45. 45 Tony C. Jul 1st, 2005 at 1:02 am

Oh… well nice of you to respond…

  46. 46 Dr. Keene F. Tiedemann, DM Jul 10th, 2005 at 2:31 am

Ladies and Gentlement, your emotional diatribes in this blog, inability to discuss the original question, and lack of objective and verifiable data regarding the subjects that you DO discuss clearly illustrate the dire lack of a literate and educated generation of undergraduates. It is easier to express one’s opinions, or to simply accept the opinions of others, than to objectively research the facts. In fact, such tactics have become the mainstay of postmodern political dialogue. Unfortunately, the ramifications of such personal intellectual laziness are the obfuscation of truth and damage to the academic reputation of the University of Nebraska. Study history; study the records of the candidates; above all stop behaving like junior high school students and objectively-not emotionally-analyze the pros and cons of BOTH sides of the issues. For example: There are good reasons for the pro-life position AND the pro-choice postion. Pro-life seeks to honor the sanctity of human life in all of its stages while pro-choice seeks honor the sanctity of the individual’s right to determine her own destiny. Ultimately, an informed choice comes down to prioritizing which is more important. Furthermore, the only thing a defeatest attitude will get members of the Democratic Party will be Republican leaders. Success in life takes hard work and until you realize that you will walk in mediocrity and ignorance. Your requirement as an American citizen in this stage of life is to get the BEST education you can and that is hard work, too. You waste valuable tuition money that you might as well be spending on beer if you settle for anything less. If you want to become viable members of the greatest achievement in human civilization to date, I seriously suggest that you all shut up, go back to your dorm rooms, and crack a book before you embarrass yourselves in public with ill-informed diatribes. Who IS Dave Nabity? What has he done to earn the right to lead the State of Nebraska? It would truly be an affront to the State of Nebraska if ignorant minds filled the ballot boxes in 2006.

  47. 47 Kel Vjarnsen Jul 10th, 2005 at 8:53 pm

There’s no “t” at the end of gentlemen, butt-wad.

  48. 48 Marcus Jul 10th, 2005 at 10:27 pm

“Doctor” you’re not very smart for being so smart. Haha. And yeah, there’s no t at the end of gentlemen.

  49. 49 Diane Hayes Jul 12th, 2005 at 9:50 pm

What the hell is a DM? I know MD, DO, DDS, but I have no idea what a DM is.

  50. 50 Abbey M. Oct 30th, 2005 at 7:35 pm

    Well said, Dr. Tiedemann.

(And I’m not even a Democrat.)

  51. 51 Eric Dec 12th, 2005 at 6:08 pm

Maybe you need to get to know Dave personally. It is obvious we don’t all agree on the same issues however before slamming a guy, maybe you need to find out what makes him tick if you are truly interested in the person and what he or she may represent. We too often “JUMP” on the wagon without all the facts or the desire to look at the truth. It isn’t about being Republican or Democrate, it is about doing what is right.

  52. 52 Abbey Dec 13th, 2005 at 9:41 am

    It doesn’t matter, he doesn’t stand a chance anyway…

  53. 53 Christi Mar 21st, 2006 at 2:22 pm

Theres no need to overcompensate your ignorance with bashing on the Nabity family. If you’re not educated on the issues of the campaign maybe you shouldn’t be writing about it at all. Isn’t it funny how there isn’t a worthy Democrat running for position of governor?

  54. 54 Bill Mar 22nd, 2006 at 12:18 am

Nabity isn’t getting my vote anyways. FYI though, DM stands for Doctor of Management. You guys haven’t heard of Kenne F. Tiedemann?

  55. 55 Bill Mar 22nd, 2006 at 12:20 am

I’m not the same Bill from earlier in the post FYI.
