More than 125 people showed up at Salem Baptist Church to hear the candidates’ plans for north Omaha and the city as a whole.
The forum was sponsored by several organizations, including the NAACP, the Urban League of Nebraska, 100 Black Men of Omaha and the local chapter of the National Coalition of 100 Black Women.
But what did Dave Friend (or his campaign) have to say about the event? The quote below is straight from the Dave Friend website.
Dave holds his own in front of North Omaha community forum sponsored by minority organizations known for their active support of Democrats and promoting distrust of police.
With an attitude like that, African-Americans have a reason to be afraid if Dave Friend is elected mayor. Did Dave express his concerns in front of the organizations or does he just rely on the internet to fling virtual insults?
UPDATE: It looks like the Friend campaign has taken that comment down.

Our poster has nothing to do with race, it’s because she’s a liar.

Please, show the NAACP, Urban League, 100 Black Men of Omaha, and the National Coalition of 100 Black Women our poster. I think they will find it as truthful and telling as you and I know that it is. The great thing about these organizations is that they stand up the average, disenfranchised, hard working American. People who unfortunately are not represented by Dr. Condoleeza Rice. People like you, bringing race into an issue without reason, are the cause for continuous racism in society today. Who cares what race Condoleeza Rice is? If she lies, she lies. Bottom line. Fortunately, there are people in the world today that have the courage to call a spade a spade, and unfortunately, you are not one of those people, as you can not get beyond a person´s skin color to realize that much more lies deep within.
The NAACP, Urban League, National Coalition of 100 Black Women, and 100 Black Men of Omaha are great organizations speaking for those who are not heard. Yet, Mr. Friend considers a forum sponsored by them enemy territory that he had to “hold his own” against. Well, I think that says a little bit about which side Mr. Friend is batting for. Last I checked we were all Americans, all working for OUR nation, but to Mr. Friend, aparently we are not all on the same side.
Maybe Mr. Friend should try reaching out to the black community rather than trying to simply “hold his own” against it. If he wants to represent our community, he needs to represent all of it.

I think your poster is extremely racist and anti-woman. Of all the current administration officials, your group chose an african-american woman as its target…an overtly race-baiting tactic if ever there was one. I’m sure, at the very least, past local NAACP leader, Dr. Everett Reynolds, will have a comment after he opens his mail on Monday. When did the UNO Democrats become allies with the KKK and Nazi party of America???

Obviously, you’ haven’t seen the other posters we’ve put up around campus. Condi is not the first or second person from this administration to be featured on our poster. We’ve already featured Dubya and Dick Cheney on our posters.

Don’t forget, the Condi Rice poster is also anti-middle aged, anti-PhDs, anti-Alabaman, and anti-Stanford faculty. Rice even went to Grad School at Notre Dame, so, of course, the UNO Democrats hate Catholics and want to see the Fighting Irish go 0-11 in the coming football season.

Condi Rice would run circles around all you little political wantabes. The lady graduated college at the age of 19 and has a masters and a Phd. She is also the former provost at Stanford.
