The Young Democrats at the University of Nebraska - Lincoln held a successful meeting last night. City Council candidates Dan Marvin and Terry Werner spoke at the meeting. I hope this is a sign of great things to come at UNL.
The Daily Nebraskan (the student newspaper at UNL) has a story about the meeting.
The UNO College Democrats may be interested in the part below.
As part of their Earth Day booth on the Nebraska Union Plaza on April 22, the Young Democrats plan to offer rides for students who want to vote early.
The group also hopes to camp out at the Lancaster County election commission office to be the first to vote early Monday, like a group of Young Democrats in Omaha did for the Omaha City Council primary.
P.S. If you are a UNL student and interested in joining the UNL Young Democrats, visit their website at http://www.unl.edu/yd/.
YAY! The brilliant ideas of whoever thought to camp out at the election commission office are spreading! When I was at the meeting last night, quite a few of the members seemed really interested in doing that for their city council candidates this Sunday night. A really great idea that was mentioned at the meeting was a Texas Hold ‘Em night with all the proceeds going to a city council candidate. Good idea…maybe we should snag it and use it in Omaha..
Actually that is a pretty good idea. If my memory serves me I think our FMLA chapter here at UNO did something like that. Also, it might be a little late for our city elections. It seems to me that everybody has pretty much got their fundraising done and is going into the final push. I may be wrong though. But I still think its a good idea to raise money. If they city counsel members are in good shape maybe we could do something like we did at Christmas and donate some to the homeless shelters downtown. It seems that people kinda forget outbout those people when you get out of the holiday season, might be a good guesture. But good idea Meg! Oh, and UNL. And possibly FMLA!
yeah us in fmla did it to raise money for our dc trip. it worked pretty well, could have had better attendance though.
I think the unl thing is great. Ours is Monday the 25th, so coming up pretty soon. The offering rides thing is brilliant though. Cause students who aren’t registered, or are registered somewhere else, can go to the elections office, register, and vote on the spot. How great is that?
Maybe a table outside or something?
Greetings!
I am so glad that there is a free exchange of good ideas among local chapters to energize young democrats in Nebraska and to elect Democrats to office. Let’s keep up the energy and good ideas!
President, Nebraska Young Democrats
copy cats lol you know the Star Wars fans are camping out too? we should try to find some of them and get their help to elect Mark Hamill (im sure he was a democrat).
Well that was completely off topic but I havent posted in awhile and figured I would chime in. im glad lincoln is starting to get a group as cool as ours
I think Mark Hamill is a log-cabin republican.
that is sad
