The sit-in Monday to fight for the jobs of UNO Faculty Caroline Simpson and Pamela Owens received great press coverage.
This story ran front and center of the midlands section with a full color photograph (below)

The main point of this post is to let everyone know about the second day of action.
Yesterday (Monday) the Vice-Chancellor was inexplicably suddenly unable to be in the office. So in order to make sure he meets with students there will be a second sit-in this Thursday. It will start at noon (best time to show up) and will continue all day until the office closes. The goal is to have at least ten people there the whole time, just like Monday.
The Vice-Chancellor’s office is on the second floor of Eppley Admin. Building, room 201. It is very easy to find, and if you show up at noon there will be other people on there way up there.
JUST TO REITERATE: College Democrats has not taken any specific position on this issue. If you think we should be doing that, or taking action (by helping out with the petitions, letter writing, organizing other students, etc) bring it up in the comments section. Voice your opinion either way.
When I was in HS, we had a sit in to protest the expulsion of a student for streaking at a football game. Nevermind the fact that he was a 3rd year Senior, and had been suspended like 5 times…. we were activists!
That being said, I have to work Thurs. I wish I could join you all.
Good luck!
I will be there after class on Thursday, for a while. Who wants to join me? We can bring music and snacks!! Anyways I think we should tak e a position on this issue, because they want to fire two great and outspoken feminist teachers from the university. I mean after all we are Democrats we do believe in women’s rights and wish to keep letting outspoken feminist educate others.
I figure I should say something about this.
Umm. I’m, until further notice going to remain neutral on the subject of what (if anything) unodems should do. I need to do this 1) because I’m not going to ask my friends and people I respect to take on a cause for my family 2)because it would look bad if the stories started being “and her son organized some friends to do a sitin,” especially since I’ve never met all but like 2 people in that photo.
I am, though, going to send personalized letters to each and every person on that list on behalf of Caroline Simpson. She is an awesome teacher, and I can’t tell you how many people are pissed off over in the fine arts building.
If anyone does want to do something big, I think letters to each and every person are the most effective. It takes a while to write out an email/letter to each person, but even short ones go a long way. Letters to the public pulse will probably also be important because, from what little I’ve heard, some of the administration people who have been behind a lot of this have already written a ton and are having people sign them.
Lastly: if any member or reader of this blog has even the slightest reservation about our group caring about this issue please please please voice it. Since I’m not even sure if our group should take a stand on this at all, obviously I’m not going to have any bad feelings or anything like that. We do, after all, have a serious election to be working on, not to mention all the other things we talked about at our last meeting.

Oh. And everyone should remember the Gary Gernandt volunteering on Saturday night. People who attend the St. Patty’s day parade for Anne Boyle earlier in the day will get some free fliers that night too.
…
The parade is this Saturday?
yes. 10 or 10:30ish is when we’re meeting. Wear either Green and White, or Yellow and Black (Anne’s colors)
