At the UNO College Democrats Blog, we pride ourselves on listening to all sides of an issue. Republicans and Democrats are welcome to visit our blog and post comments. To this date, not a single comment has been edited for “political” reasons. Although, I’ve had to edit some comments that were related to internet porn and poker.
Unfortunately, the same can’t be said about a local Republican blog. Today, I visited politicsinnebraska.blogspot.com.
The first comment I made was in regards to this post. I don’t know exactly what I said but it was along the lines of “Jim Vokal brings Christ to the people? How about checking out the Jim Vokal for City Council Slogan Contest.”
The second comment that was deleted was in regards to this post. The comment went something like this… “Please give the source of that photo credit or take it off your website. Actually, I’ll tell you were it came from. It came from the UNO College Democrats. If you want to see additional photos, visit the Bush Protest Photo Gallery. It’s funny that you picked out the photo with the least amount of people in it. Were you at the protest? The World-Herald was correct (or even low) in their crowd estimates. It’s just like a Republican to tell half the story.”
I’m not a lawyer, but I think it might be against the law for them to hijack one of our pictures and place it on there website. At the very least, it’s not moral to take another persons work and not give them credit.
So, they’re either breaking the law or immoral, you pick.
Censorship… a Republican’s best friend.
P.S. By posting this entry on our blog, the traffic on the Republican blog will likely triple in one day. I didn’t think twice about doing this because I want people to know both sides of the issue. Let’s see if they return the favor.
UPDATE 3/7/05: It looks like the Politics in Nebraska blog has taken the picture (and the entire post) about the Bush protest down.
Scott Knudsen is a contributor to that blog? I guess he’s got a lot of free time after getting beat by Gwen Howard.
You’re right…censorship IS a republican’s best friend! It is such bullsh**t (don’t know if i am allowed to swear on this or not…) that they think they can take our pictures and not even mention whose they are. Isn’t it funny that the rublican party loves to claim the moral high ground, yet they themselves are ::gasp:: guilty of criminal actions. How contradictory…
I really don’t see why you guys are so surprised. I mean the National Administration has successfully run a campaign of censorship. They even
had a male prostitute posing as a uhm journalist if that is what you could call him , to loob soft “ball” questions at the President. No republican is interested in two way discourse and they certainly are not intrested in the truth. Unless you cal broadcasting the news with a slant and only allowing post on blogs that fit into their cult like image truthful.
My theory is they do not post any dissenting post let alone any of ours because they simply don’t have a counter argument based in fact.
I think it is deplorable that they deleted the posts, but they did so out of weakness. What they are doing on both the national level, and on our local level, is bend the truth. And yes they flat out lie at times. What the republicans are doing is lulling their supporters to sleep. While they wish to believe there were only a couple handfuls of protesters about when Bush was last here, we who were there, know the truth. Let them ignore reality and live in their warped perspective of the world. All the while we spend our time growing our numbers and organizing.
Knudsen if you remember is the one who outspent his opponent by tons of money sending out tons and tons of attack adds and then claimed she and her special interest buddies were using buckets of cash to smear him. He tried to attack Gwen for being a social worker as if we all know social workers are evil liberals.
He was the one who’s brother said it isn’t sexist to think that women should stay at home and not run for office or to imply that women aren’t as good with budgets as men.
He’s also the one who runs “low income houses” throughout omaha…aka slum lord.
I wouldn’t expect his blog to be the pinacle of moral high ground, nor a place in any way free of obvious contradictions and hyprocisy.
Well I just got back from cruising around their blog and it was just pathetic. Nobody writes comments and nobody responds to anything.
Not suprised at all, but I mean really, who would want to write on a Republican blog, and if they did what would they write, God loves me, I love god, god is great, oh and don’t kill babies. I mean they have been living in this fantasy world for the last 4 years. I guess we just have to keep waiting until they open their eyes and see the truth. By the way, have you all seen the UNO Repubs fliers with Seeking the Truth? as the title, I am going to email them and I urge you all to as well, and ask them how would we find the truth at their meeting??
You guys are a joke! Making fun of other websites out there! And I’m really sure the reason they took down the photos and posts is because of YOUR work.
Why don’t you help the D party out by doing work for some of our candidates rather than surfing the web!

Since the last election cycle college dems have been working for our candiadtes and many Won their races. We phone banked canvassed did visibilty. We even took a raod trip to swing states. Currently we are all working on city races. So unless you have hard proof that none of us work on campaigns I suggest you respectfully stuff it.
