Or at least Matthew Lytlle needs to denounce them in his colum. I'd settle for that, since we're not sure college republicans has access to the internet. (see previous snarky post about their "insert content here" website)

I, myself, am a card carrying member of the College Republicans, and if you're accusing this on the group, this is bulls***. I (and probably with the College Republicans) wholeheartedly denounce this.

Our fundraising has been from bake sales and button/poster sales.

Oh, and before anybody tries to use this in any way, shape or form, All of my stories are mine. Hell, the first few meetings, I had to plug my own articles. I get paid for these articles, but only the flat $10 rate from the Gateway.

We were going to do something through the Blackboard system, but nothing's happened yet.

Matt Matt Matt,

You know what is sooo funny about your post? everytime a democrat falls from grace Republicans can't wait to blame the whole party for their uhm"sin".
We are not accussing all college Republicans but this is the second financial scandal to hit the organization. College republicans made a big stink over our buttons last fall, when your national organization did agressive fundraising that targeted many elderly citizens who could not afford to give and as far as I have read the National organization has yet to give back the money.
All this post is pointing out is the hypocrisy of the GOP is astounding.
Republicans talk a good game about morals but have yet to put up or shut up on the issue.
So, once again we call upon the UNO College Republicans to denounce this
deplorable act.

Look, the post wanted a denouncement, I at least gave one.
Still, you really should have waited for this guy to be charged by the Reno DA's office, not accused by a criminal complaint, for the denouncement.

I think one main reason why at least I made a big stink over the buttons was the fact your group used "F***". I know you guys can say what you want, but isn't that a little harsh? Honestly.

As a matter of fact, either on or the day before election day, I was in the MBSC Comp Lab, and there was this guy ranting on and on against Bush, even saying "If he wins, I'm gonna kill him myself." I did spot one of your buttons on his jacket, but that's a mute point. He even wanted to fight a friend of mine when he tried to calm him down.

There is a fine line between dissent and hatred. That guy was pure, unseething hatred. I was actually in fear of my life if he recognized me. (Thank God I keep a low profile.) The "F*** BUSH" button was hatred. The "Only Draft I Support" was humor/dissent. A professor of mine had one. I didn't mind it. He's a good guy.

Still, I denounce this, though it's only a complaint. And if it leads to criminal charges, I'll still denounce it.

I wouldn't have posted it if the facts didn't look so overwhelming.

But the point of denouncing (as much as I appreciate you doing so) is that you are a charter member of this organization. I hope your group will send them some letters asking for better financial acountability.

As for tarring a whole group with a single brush stroke:
it is undeniable that Drudge, the weekly standard, Townhall.com (Heritage Foundation), and the Free Republic have spent considerable colum inches and bandwidth trying to explain how Lynn Stewart and her terrorist ties somehow paints all democrats badly. How she is "indicitive and typical of the liberal mindset" (Bill O on fox said that one).

But then College Republicans has 4 financial acountability scandals in a matter of only a few months...and somehow that doesn't reflect back at all. I'm not implying that UNO College Repubs are that way, as far as I know none of you hold national CR or YR offices. But you have to admit that something is wrong with your national organization...and if I were you I'd be demanding some acountability.

the 4, for Robin's edification since she said 2
are
-letters claiming to be Bush's campaign asking seniors to contribute money along with a lapel pin for George Bush to wear during the debates and SOTU Adress. Needless to say GW never got or wore the pins, and the money was pocketed by YR.
-when the story broke they made a big stink about giving back all the money, how it was some rouge firm they'd hired unsuspectingly and how they were even giving back money to people who didn't get those letters. Turns out they were written by the VP and tresurer of YR itself, and not a dime has been given back yet. (that's two, lying about the letters, not giving money back)
-this one. Slush fund.

4 points pretty easily makes a line. Someone better let YR know that the line they are on is not headed anywhere good.

I don't see why a party would have to explain for one mans actions.
So we think that every time we are down we get kicked by the repubs, and some how retaliation is the only way to make things even. How could we ever win the game if we resort to the same dirty tricks?
I just think it is silly asking them to denounce that fellow’s action because I am not sure of anybody who would be in favor of it.

As a die hard Democrat, I love every opportunity to show the hypocrisy of the Republican Party. However, I know that one man´s failures should not reflect upon a group as a whole, for that is nothing more than stereotyping, something we as Democrats stand firmly against. The bottom line is that members of both parties have character flaws and lapses in judgement. I doubt that the Republican Party applauds this act of deceit to the tune of $25,000 against many of it´s donating members. As a Democrat, I am just hoping that this indispicable act makes rich Republicans think twice before donating to grass roots GOP organizations. We as Democrats must see this as a reminder to the fact that one´s actions can and will reflect upon the group as a whole, whether rightfully so or not. Let´s take the high road here and learn from the mistake of our counterpart. Let everyone else slander their name for it.

Complaint dropped against GOP operative

THE ASSOCIATED PRESS

RENO -- A criminal complaint has been dropped against a state Young Republicans member accused of embezzling registration fees for an upcoming GOP convention.

Joe Brezny, Nevada's national committeeman for Young Republicans, said he asked Reno police to drop the complaint against Nathan Taylor after determining the charges were groundless.

"We're trying to set the record straight," Brezny said.

Taylor, 29, a senior at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, accepted the apology.

"I am disappointed it got to the press, but I've forgiven those groups for what they did," Taylor said.

Taylor also won back his job as chairman of the Young Republican National Convention, scheduled July 6-10 at Mandalay Bay. He was removed from the post last month.

In a complaint filed with police Feb. 14, Brezny alleged Taylor used registration fees and donations for personal use such as bar tabs and credit card debts.

In a letter to police, Arjun Dhingra, state Young Republicans chair, said about $25,000 received from 200 people around the country was missing.

Taylor said he produced documents to show he didn't do anything wrong. He said the bar tabs involved dinners he bought for volunteers of the convention's committee.

During police questioning, Taylor produced an August 2004 letter that granted him the authority to organize, arrange and sign contracts for the event.

After discovery of the letter, Brezny told police to drop the investigation.
