Republican Don Stenberg is trying to separate himself as the craziest candidate for the U.S. Senate in Nebraska - and he’s doing a pretty good job.
Bush eavesdropping deserves thanks, Stenberg says - Omaha World-Herald
“Instead of criticizing and threatening to impeach the president,” Stenberg said, “Democrats and Republicans alike should be thanking President Bush for his energetic efforts to protect us from terrorist attacks here at home.”
Politicians of both parties have raised questions about whether Bush had legal authority to order monitoring of phone calls and e-mail messages on American soil without a warrant. Bush has vigorously defended his actions as constitutional and within his rights as commander in chief.
Stenberg agreed.
“Communications from foreign terrorist enemies to their fellow terrorists in the United States are acts of war,” he said. “Dealing with those acts of war is the responsibility of the president, not the courts.”
Yes, let’s be thankful our civil liberties are slowly being chipped away for national security purposes.
Soon, Stenberg will announce his plan to “roll-back” the first ammendment because terroritsts are abusing this right and he considers it an act of war.
As Benjamin Franklin once said, “Those who would give up essential liberty, to purchase a little temporary security, deserve neither liberty nor security.”
Congratulations to the UNO College Democrats after a successful Truman Dinner appearance. After taking an unprecedented twenty members to the dinner, the UNO College Democrats were surprised by being chosen the winner of the 2006 Douglas County Democrats Volunteer Award! After logging more than 1,000 campaign volunteer hours last spring, and 250 already in just the first few weeks of this year, the UNO College Democrats are commanding respect in the city, state, and even nation!
United States Senator Ken Salazar from Colorado said it best when he recommended that all fifty states model their organizations after the UNO College Democrats!
Congratulations to every one of you that has volunteered a minute, an hour, or much more in helping the UNO College Democrats make a difference! It’s About Time, and last night was yours. This recognition is for you! Thanks to all of you that make it happen!!
It seems that the United States’ military is again drunk with power, this time bombing a village in northwestern Pakistan, stopping 17 innocent hearts, and damaging relations with yet another country in a vital part of the world. The reason for the bombing: the possibility of al-Qaida member Ayman al-Zawahri in the village. Needless to say, he was not there. Seventeen innocent people unfortunately were, though. Among those suddenly to lose their life are the three children of Shah Zaman. He is shown below walking through the rubble where he lost all his children at the hands of the United States of America.

Undoubtedly, this mistake will be justified by the “increased threat to national security since 9/11″ and as a necessary step in the War on Terror. That justification, however, raises some serious questions. Is bombing Pakistan really a smart decision? When did they become a target in the War on Terror? Can we really bomb any country we want to if we merely “suspect” an al-Qaida presence? What if a suspected al-Qaida operative is thought to be in Canada? Do we bomb Toronto? Can we bomb Toronto? Or do we not bomb Toronto because they are predominantly white, christians? What about Quebec? They speak French. Would the United States rather bomb them?
Just how much terror can the War on Terror justify and for how long is that justification valid? Time will tell, but for now, 17 more innocent people have lost their lives on yet another mistake made by the United States in their War on Terror.
If you have some free time during the day, take a few minutes to watch the current session of the Nebraska Unicameral. You can watch the session live on NETV2.

Usually the Nebraska Unicameral isn’t exciting television but Ernie Chambers has changed that. It’s difficult to describe just how entertaining he is to watch so just tune in and find out exactly what I’m talking about. Not only is Senator Chambers entertaining but you’ll also be educated at the same time. If NETV was smart, they would sell a DVD that shows all of Ernie Chambers’ floor debate this year.
Also, LB 454 (Concealed Handgun Permit Act) is going to be debated soon on the floor of the Unicameral. If a person is allowed to carry a handgun, then should there be a limit to how many handguns they can carry? Well, Ernie Chambers thinks so and that is why he introduced the following amendment to LB 454…
To determine the number of pistols a licensee may lawfully carry concealed under the Concealed Handgun Permit Act or section 28-1202 on any given occasion (except the United States or the State of Nebraska shall be at war), the body weight of the licensee shall be multiplied by ten-times the licensee’s (admitted) age, then divided into the year of the licensee’s birth plus one hundred thirty-seven and one-half, then add the number of inches of licensee’s height rounded up to the next full inch which shall be subtracted from the number of the current century (2100), if the number of the current century exceeds the other number, otherwise subtract the number of the current century from the other number, then, after multiplying the size of the licensee’s right shoe by three-times the girth of the licesee’s waist after a full meal, measured and certified by a professional tailor…
This amendment continues on for a few more pages. If you want to read the entire amendment, then click here.
