UPDATE: Senator Nelson plans to wear a button from the College Democrats on the show. Developing… (as Drudge would say)
Nebraska Senator Ben Nelson will make an appearance on The Daily Show tomorrow (Monday, February 28th).

This is must see TV!
The Daily Show is on Comedy Central at 10:00 p.m. central.
Is this a coincidence or is this plagiarism? Judge for yourself…
In the February 25, 2005 issue of the UNO Gateway, a news story contained the following title:
“UNO’s new lactation station an innovation for celebration”
On February 22, 2005, I posted a blog entry with the following title:

If you thought the boxing match between Millard and Omaha in 1971 was big, then grab a ringside seat for the match between Omaha and Elkhorn.
Meet the two contenders…
Name: Omaha
Nickname: The Big “O”
Height: 1272 ft above sea level
Weight: 390,000 people
Age: 150 years old
Reach: 116 square miles
Ringside manager: Mike Fahey
Secret Weapon: “It’s still a secret.” - anonymous
Name: Elkhorn
Nickname: Those rich snobs out west
Height: 1170 ft above sea level
Weight: Approaching 10,000
Age: (was offended that I asked)
Reach: 3.7 square miles
Ringside manager: Phil Klein
Secret Weapon: “We have the highest household income in the state, and we’re not going to be told what to do by the poor schmucks of Omaha. We’ll buy our way out of this fight.” - anonymous
Las Vegas has not placed odds on this fight as of posting time, but if I were a betting man, I would say Omaha is the slight favorite.
What are your thoughts?
Last night, Omaha Mayor Mike Fahey visited with the College Democrats. I hope everyone enjoyed the meeting. Feel free to post comments about last night’s meeting.

Local and national politics are the main focus of the UNO College Democrats Blog. But every once in a while we like to talk about things going on around campus. Today is one of those days.
While reading the Omaha World-Herald today, a news story caught my eye.
UNO adds lactation station, diaper tables
BY JUDITH NYGREN
The diaper set is finding visits to the University of Nebraska at Omaha a bit more child-friendly.
The university has 23 new diaper changing tables in men’s and women’s bathrooms across campus. It also has its first private lactation station for nursing moms.
Both additions will be celebrated today at 3 p.m. in the Milo Bail Student Center.
I really think the World-Herald dropped the ball when they titled the news story “UNO adds lactation station, diaper tables”. I think they missed a golden opportunity to use the line “A lactation station celebration”.
If you are wondering were these new stations are, look no further than the Infant Care Stations map.
Today, Presidents Day, is a good time to look back at what has made past presidents well-loved, and will make future ones successful. In today’s World-Herald online poll 60% of Nebraskans said that the “best president in history” was a liberal.
With Lincoln, FDR, Kennedy, and Clinton all coming in the top 5, it was easy to see how liberalism has helped our nation move forward in the face of adversity.

(Here’s a real link to the great 4 for anyone doing a trackback.)
Two national polls released today indicated that most Americans agree with Nebraskan’s assessment of Presidential Greatness.
In CNN-USA Today-Gallup poll :
20 percent of those polled chose Lincoln. Reagan was picked by 15 percent, Franklin Roosevelt by 12 percent, John Kennedy by 11 percent, Bill Clinton by 10 percent and George W. Bush by 8 percent. Washington was picked by 6 percent.
In the OWH only 22% picked conservatives (like Reagan or GWB), 10% picked self-described moderates (George Washington) and 7% had no opinion or were unsure, as of 4:30pm.
Who ever said bloggers aren’t reporters? While driving along 72nd Street today, a bus bench caught my eye. Luckily for me (and our loyal readers), I had my camera with me. This intriguing bus bench is for Omaha City Councilman Jim Vokal and it is located at the corner of 72nd and Jones St.

I don’t mean to pat myself on the back, but I’ve done more groundbreaking investigative journalism in ten minutes than the UNO Gateway has done all year.
Actually, the bus bench above is not the only peculiar Jim Vokal bus bench in the city…

So, how about we have some fun at the expense of a Republican?
Introducing the “JIM VOKAL SLOGAN CONTEST”
Do you have a funny, offensive, or clever saying that you think would look good in place of “narcotics anonymous” on a Jim Vokal bus bench? If so, post a comment with that saying. The person that posts the best slogan will win some free anti-Bush buttons.
Here are some samples:
Jim Vokal for City Council… I’m not as bad as you think
Jim Vokal for City Council… I didn’t inhale
Jim Vokal for City Council… You know what they say about tall people
To be fair, it hasn’t been 100% proven yet.
But we’ve learned not to expect the paramount of virtue from these guys in the past:
The young Nevada man designated to chair the upcoming 2005 Young Republican National Convention in Las Vegas has been accused of embezzling registration fees from around the country to pay off bar tabs, personal loans and credit card debts.
Nevada’s national committeeman for Young Republicans filed a criminal complaint Monday with the Reno Police Department alleging Nathan Taylor received more than $25,000 in registration fees and donations through his corporation, YRNC 2005, and spent almost all of it in the past year for personal use.
…
“The reason we turned this into the Reno police is because from the bank statement we have in hand, we’re afraid this corporate account has turned into his personal slush fund,” said Joe Brezny, Nevada’s Young Republican National Committeeman…”
Slush Fund. Classy.
Here at UNODemocrats we called on the UNO College Republicans to denounce the unethical and predatory fundraising tactics of the Young Republicans. They did not.
Now, again, we call on them to denounce these shameless actions of their compatriots.
Did anyone see The Daily Show tonight? If not, watch it tomorrow night at 10:30.
So why was the show so great? Well…
1) The first 12 minutes of The Daily Show was about blogs.
2) During that segment, a clip featuring Bill Press was shown.
3) If that wasn’t enough, Lewis Black was on the show. If you weren’t at the UNO College Democrats meeting on Valentine’s Day, this may not mean much. Let me explain. Last Thursday, Lewis Black was in Omaha performing at the Funny Bone. Before the show, Gary and Matt happened to run into Lewis. Gary had brought a Jon Stewart button with him to the show and handed it to Lewis. Lewis took the button and said, “I’ll give this to Jon”. I’m not sure if that button ever made it to Jon, but there is a small chance that Jon Stewart is possession of a UNO College Democrats button.
If you forgot, Bill Press bought a few buttons from us. He was actually wearing the Jon Stewart button after the Truman Dinner.
So, two of our most famous “customers” were on The Daily Show tonight. If we are lucky, Jon Stewart has seen the button.
