One of the biggest political questions in the state is still unanswered. Today, the Omaha World-Herald revealed a few of the women on the short-list for lieutenant governor. Current Lt. Governor Dave Heineman will be promoted once the U.S. Senate gives current Governor Mike Johanns an excuse to leave the state.
Does anyone remember the last high-profile decision Republican Dave Heineman took part in? Well, when Heineman was promoted to lieutenant governor (man, this guy has a knack for getting promoted) his position as State Treasurer needed to be filled. Heineman supported Loralee Byrd to succeed him, and we all know how that ended up (if you don’t remember, here’s a summary). Heineman sure has an eye for talent!
I wonder if Loralee Byrd is on the short list for lieutenant governor?

Dave Heineman and Loralee Byrd
Who will Dave Heineman give the final rose to? Will there be a hot-tub scene? Will the losers be upset and spill their guts on a televised season finale? You will have to tune in next week to find out.
If you haven’t been to the University of Nebraska - Omaha website lately, you are in for a suprise.
Instead of the website looking unique, the UNO website is now the ugly cousin of the UNL website.
UNO has changed the look of the website but they still haven’t fixed the problem on the Clubs and Organizations page. If you visit that website and scroll down to “Special Interest Groups”, you will find the problem. All of the organizations are in alphabetical order except for one, the College Democrats. I’m not sure what alphabet they are using, but the last time I checked “C” came way before “U”. When will the discrimination of the College Democrats stop?
What will it take for the College Democrats to get listed above the College Republicans? Where is the UNO Gateway? They should be investigating this blatant discrimination!
On a much lighter note, has anyone else noticed that you must type in “www.unomaha.edu” in your browser? If you type in “unomaha.edu” without the “www”, it will not work. Maybe the techies at the University can fix this problem after they fix the alphabetizing problem.
UPDATE: After emailing the university, the error on the Clubs and Organizations has been fixed (and they even linked to our website). If you weren’t able to see the error, click here for a screen shot of the old page.
Here’s your chance to see the Saturday Night Live skit making fun of Rush Limbaugh, Red States, Drudge, etc.
The skit is about Santa skipping all the red states because the people there are idiots. It looks like Nebraskans will not be seeing Santa Claus for one (maybe even four) years. The picture below is of Rush Limbaugh passed because of drug abuse.

Watch the skit and post comments!

Take a look at some of faces of the UNO College Democrats. These are only a few of the many members responsible for the progressive politics on campus.

Here is sneak preview of some of the new buttons that may appear on the UNO campus next semester. Don’t worry, we will continue to sell some of the popular anti-Bush buttons from the Fall semester.
The election is over but that doesn’t mean our fight is over.
Is there something you like (or don’t like about the buttons)? Post a comment!

Do you have an idea for a poster that should be placed around campus? Let us know.
Visit a huge directory of political posters and post your favorite posters on this blog.
Three great websites for posters are BloodForOil.org, BigPath.net, and WhiteHouse.org.

Matthew Lytle, our favorite columnist at the UNO Gateway, can’t get enough of those buttons.
Here is an excerpt from 2004: A heck of a year
There were books published about two guys wanting to kill President Bush, there was even a play on Broadway titled I Want to Kill the President (They also had advertising bumper stickers). And, not to mention the College Democrats here at UNO, there were “F*** Bush” buttons being sold (and the subsequent “Buck Fush” buttons), all of which came to a climactic end on Election Day, when George W. Bush won not only the popular vote, but also the Electoral College. (Despite what my critics say.) But this entire election, the way I see it, was nothing more than a “Hate Bush fest.”
Unfortunately, Matthew Lytle is lying to UNO students again! He said that button sales came to an end on election day, but that is not true. When students return to the campus in January, they will be greeted by more anti-Bush buttons. I’ll bet the students at UNO can’t wait to see (and buy) the new buttons.
We will let this “untruth” by Matthew slide because this announcement was top-secret until today. I know Matthew will be thrilled about the new buttons because it will provide him with enough material to write seven or eight new columns in the newspaper.

Take a few minutes and read the two articles below. This two-part series was written by Christopher Tiwald (a student at the University of Nebraska - Lincoln) and published by the Daily Nebraskan (the student newspaper of UNL).
Part 1 of the series is about national voter suppression, and in Part 2, Tiwald desribes some of the voter suppression he witnessed at polling places in Omaha.
Part 1: Even in the land of the free, some voices still silenced
Part 2: Confusion at polls results from gross incompetence
Post your comments about these articles on the Daily Nebraskan website and at our blog!
Also, why didn’t the reporters at the Omaha World-Herald or Lincoln Journal Star do their jobs on election day? I would ask the same thing about the UNO Gateway, but we already know the UNO Gateway doesn’t do any investigative journalism.
While Republicans lecture Democrats on moral superiority, they refuse to address problems in their own backyard (or should I say on their campaign stage).
A youth pastor in Des Moines, IA was recently charged with “sexual exploitation by a counselor”. This same pastor attended a Bush campaign event in Des Moines, sat on the stage behind the President, and was recognized during the speech by Dubya.
